Research Technician- Mir lab
We are looking for a Research Technician II to join Dr. Mustafa Mir’s lab at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and The University of Pennsylvania. The Mir lab develops and applies advanced light microscopy methods, genomics, and gene editing, to study the molecular scale kinetics of how gene expression is regulated during early embryonic development and in disease. We offer a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on curiosity driven research. We are a collaborative and interdisciplinary team and there is ample opportunity to learn new techniques and be involved in exciting science using cutting-edge techniques. The lab is a part of the Center for Computational and Genomic Medicine at CHOP and the Cell and Developmental Biology Department and The Epigenetics Institute at Penn. For more information about the lab please see
In this role, you will work collaboratively with the Mir lab. Regulating when and where genes are expressed is essential to the proper development and health of all life. The remarkably robust nature of this regulation is illustrated during embryonic development where individual cells make decisions to lay out the future body plan of an animal. Mustafa Mir and his lab develop and apply new microscopes to directly visualize the molecular scale events that underlie gene expression within live embryos. By interrogating these events in their native contexts, the Mir lab aims to build a quantitative understanding of how gene expression is regulated and new approaches to correct it when it goes awry.
The ideal candidate is extremely organized, detail oriented, curious, and motivated, with at least a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cell biology or a related field and previous experience working in a lab setting. Comfort with standard molecular biology techniques and proven ability to work in a team are critical. Previous experience with Drosophila and/or mouse husbandry is highly desired. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to several projects and resulting co-authorship on papers.
What we provide:
We have a team that believes in continuous learning and cultivates an environment of collaboration.
Opportunity to work in a diverse and encouraging research environment.
Hands on training in microscopy, molecular biology, genetics and genomics techniques.
Opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research.
Standing one-on-one meetings with PI every two weeks.
Annual career development session.
Weekly group meetings with the Investigator and lab members in a collaborative and highly team-oriented setting.
Our lab is part of the Center for Computational and Genomic Medicine at CHOP, and the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology and the Epigenetics Institute at Penn. As a result, there are lots of opportunities to meet other scientists, attend seminars, and expand your network.

Actively contribute to laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
Record keeping and other organizational duties.
What you bring:
Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Molecular Biology; or a related field and previous experience working in a lab setting.
Two years of related research experience as research assistant.
Knowledge of laboratory protocols and techniques.
Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a diverse population.
Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, work independently, use good judgment, and monitor completion of assigned duties.
