We craft and sell wines of Pennsylvania through our winery, retail shops, events, online store, and multiple wholesale channels. Position Overview
The Controller is a full-time management support role responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting, HR recordkeeping, and financial operations. This person will help transition key functions in-house and provide financial insight to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manage accounts payable and receivable using Bill.com and QuickBooks Online
- Handle cash accounting and bank deposits for the winery, retail locations, and events
- Maintain all financial records in QuickBooks and Commerce 7 POS system
- File monthly and quarterly reports, including:
- Sales & Use Tax
- PA Wine Commodity Tax
- Federal Wine Excise Tax
- Direct Wine Shipper and PLCB Reports
- Lead transition from outsourced accounting to fully in-house system
- Transition financial reporting to align with calendar-year fiscal year
- Begin producing internal financial statements
Human Resources & Payroll (via iSolved)
- Maintain HR records in iSolved
- Oversee hiring and termination documentation
- Oversee RAMP Certification
- Administer employee benefits and manage employee roster and email groups
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule
Strategic & Operational Support
- Prepare monthly and annual sales reports
- Prepare budgets for current and potential business initiatives
- Analyze profitability and feasibility of current and potential business initiatives
- Review contracts, agreements, and event registrations
- Maintain office records and ensure compliance with record retention regulations
- Draft and distribute internal memos and procedures
- Coordinate annual insurance renewals:
- General Liability (March)
- Liquor Liability (March)
- Workers’ Compensation (July)
- Unemployment Compensation
Additional Duties
- Handle USDA grant submissions
- Provide support to shop managers as needed
- Be available to work at Music in the Vineyards
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of office or accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Able to design or improve spreadsheets for reporting
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organization
- Able to lift and carry a case of wine (approx. 40 lbs)
