The Emergency Department (ED) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is looking for a full time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work three 12-hour shifts per week with variable/rotating shift times. Clinical shifts would be across multiple downtown Penn EDs, with the primary site being HUP, Presbyterian (PPMC), or HUP Cedar Emergency Department.

Common patient populations and chief complaints include chest pain, abdominal pain, infectious work-ups, syncope, orthopedic injuries, dermatologic issues, transplant complications, stroke/TIA work-ups, OB/GYN and GU issues, and other medical conditions. The APP performs independent visits as well as shared visits with attendings in all Emergency Departments.
The APP will provide safe, high quality, comprehensive care to patients in a fast-paced and dynamic ED that emphasizes patient flow and throughput. The APP will complete focused history and physical exams, and order and interpret labs, EKG/telemetry, and other diagnostic studies. The APP will be responsible for ordering medications and coordinating patient care plans, often requiring consultation with other disciplines.
A successful APP will have strong, independent medical decision-making skills, be expertly skilled in multi-tasking, and have the ability to adapt to changing environments.
