Military DoD SkillBridge Program - On Wing Support Test Technician

Job Description Summary

The Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aerospace as a SkillBridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member's suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aerospace, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

Job Description

Military aircraft engine mechanic / propulsion specialist / powerplant maintainer with experience working on engines and regular participation in engine runs, test cell operations, or engine functional checks could be a strong fit for this role.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform all aspects of the engine testing, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting procedures in accordance with Standard Work, appropriate technical references, Repair Station Manuals, and GE policies and procedures
• Partner with cross-functional teams including EHS, quality, engineering, planning, and materials to support operational initiatives, achieve strategic business objectives, and support constant improvement site-wide
• Understand and strictly adhere to appropriate technical references such as Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Engine Shop Manuals, Engine Illustrated Parts Catalogs, etc.
  • Act in accordance with GE's FLIGHT DECK fundamentals & behaviors, the site's Repair Station and Quality Control Manual, Training Manual, Test Cell Facility Operations Manual, and other applicable regulatory agency requirements
• Document all work performed and book time using the site's ERP software
• Perform supplementary shop and housekeeping duties as a part of the site's 5S and Total Proactive Maintenance initiatives
• Ability to use mechanical ingenuity and make decisions in a fast-paced production environment in a safe, effective and efficient manner

Basic Qualifications:

• Active Military personnel on their last 180 days before separating from Military Service
• Minimum high school diploma / GED with 4-5 years of aircraft engine testing experience
• FAA Powerplant License or FAA form 8610-2 and ability to obtain Powerplant License before start of SkillBridge

Desired Characteristics:

• Knowledge of borescope inspection
• Experience with LEAP & GE GenX engines and engine runs
• Experience as a Test Throttle operator
• Experience as a Engine Test Site Operator
• Mechanical experience

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
