Position Summary/Objective:
This is a take charge nursing position in the drug and alcohol field in a non-hospital residential facility. This is a single incumbent position and this employee will be the only medical professional on the premises at most times. The shift is daylight position as the nurse must be working during core business hours.
Organization Responsibilities:
· Ensure compliance with policies and procedures
· Promote and follow safe working practices and take necessary steps to prevent injuries
· Comply with confidentiality policies and procedures including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
· Attend and participate in staff meetings, conferences, staff development trainings, etc.
Position Responsibilities:
· Completes a thorough nursing assessment of each client admitted to the Gaiser Center
· Reviews new client referrals prior to admission for medical suitability; may conduct personal client interviews if needed
· Oversees the client self- medication process and provides training for Support Staff on the correct procedures
· Participates in clinical staff meetings
· Keeps the Gaiser Center Infection Control Manual current and provides training to both staff and clients on the health & safety policies of the Gaiser Center
· Responsible for reviewing client medical bills.
· Acts as a liaison between the Gaiser Center's Medical Director and the clients. Along with the primary therapist, makes referrals to the Medical Director or other medical/dental appointments when necessary
· Acts as a liaison between the Gaiser Center's Psychiatrist/ CRNP and the clients. Along with the primary therapist, makes referrals to the Psychiatrist and/or CRNP when necessary
· Responsible for the medical section of each client's permanent chart
· Prepares client medical treatment plans and nursing progress notes
· Provides a weekly wellness group for clients on relevant medical material
· Provides nutritional guidance to the Cook
· Performs other related job duties as required
· Review client prescription medications
· Perform general assessment of client condition at intake
· Address any client health issues and determine whether physician treatment is needed
Qualifications
· Commitment to the mission, vision and values of the Gaiser Center.
· Knowledge of drug and alcohol abuse subculture and related mental health diagnoses is preferred, but not required.
· Must be able to maintain profession boundaries and confidentiality with clients
· Must be a "take charge" person and able to multi-task
· Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
· Must be flexible and willing to provide phone guidance to the Support Staff in the event of a medical emergency during off hours
· Ability to work effectively in a fast paced and high pressure work environment
· Must be detail oriented
· A minimum of two years nursing experience is required, preferable in a drug and alcohol or psychiatric setting. Must be a PA State Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Medical Assistant.
Profile/Other Competencies:
· Satisfactory Criminal Background Check and Pre-employment Drug Testing
· Have a valid PA driver's license.
Working Conditions:
Office conditions represent the primary working environment.
Extended hours may be required to complete projects within established time frames.
