JOB DESCRIPTION: 1st Shift Machine Operator

A machine operator in a production area at Pennwood will manage materials, communicate with supervisors, perform preventative maintenance, and strive for continuous improvement on the assigned work center. Machine operating experience is required as well as mechanical knowledge.

In addition to the above job duties, the operator should be a quick learner, be able to pay attention to detail, work under pressure and with precision. Good housekeeping of all work centers is an integral part of producing consistent quality as well as improving production efficiencies.

Main Job Duties:

• Must be able to understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and when appropriate, participate in modification of SOP to improve productivity and quality of product
• Feed sticks into molder
• Cut out sections of defective wood when needed
• Distinguish knife marks and proper quality finish
• Properly grade wood to Quality specs
• Make adjustments to the molder while running, making certain to follow proper safety precautions when necessary
• Make set up changes to molder when switching to a different type of molding

Required Qualifications:

• Some mechanical or machine operator experience
• Good at basic math

Working Conditions:

• High noise level - must wear ear protection
• Eye protection and gloves are also required at all times
• Fast paced and quality, quantity-driven
• Standing the entire shift
• Must be able to lift 25lbs
