We are looking for an experienced full-time Service Insights Associate to be a member of a high-functioning Impact & Policy Research team that oversees research, insights, strategy, impact, and policy analysis efforts to help advance the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) mission of ending hunger through providing nutritious food, fostering community collaboration, and advancing innovative solutions. The Service Insights Associate will be charged with a variety of data collection and analysis duties, including developing regularly updated data dashboards, completing ad-hoc data analyses for internal and external stakeholders, conducting neighbor surveys at pantries, and assisting in the implementation of a neighbor intake data system.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Analyze a variety of key indicators to support the work of the Impact & Policy Research team and the CPFB’s strategic priorities.
  • Conduct neighbor surveys at network food pantries in support of the community hunger mapping projects.
  • Assist in the implementation for partner network roll-out for Service Insights on MealConnect, a neighbor intake tool at pantries.
  • Answer regular externally focused data and mapping requests in support of stakeholders including but not limited to CPFB’s other internal departments, partners, and community organizations.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards utilizing Power-BI and ArcGIS including for advocacy, neighbor-centered metrics, and other research project related needs.
  • Conduct ArcGIS mapping for community hunger mapping projects, including developing methods to regularly update mapping and ArcGIS dashboards.
  • Coordinate and lead work with internal staff to update internal operating data to ensure consistent and effective collection of data needed for hunger mapping and KPMs.
  • Help maintain data integrity of internal data systems, regularly checking for issues. Clean large data sets and ensure data quality of internal data systems.
  • Attend local food policy council meetings as assigned and assist local food policy councils in their data analysis and assessment work.
  • Prepare slide deck presentations on community hunger mapping and other policy research initiatives for partners and events.
  • Develop and maintain system to track progress on internal logical model frameworks and corresponding key indicators.
  • Prepare regular monthly reports on key external indicators such as SNAP participation, poverty, and food insecurity, along with internal and partner-facing client-centered metric dashboards.
  • Work with the Finance and Operations team to sync client-centered and operations metrics and maintain regular reports.
  • Create county level maps and dashboards on major indicators for partners and policymakers.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis related to policy research activities.
  • Develop research and advocacy materials for elected officials, community organizations, schools and colleges, and others.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in economics, public policy, public administration, political science, sociology, data analytics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, social sciences, or another related field.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Exposure to non-profit work.
  • Four years of relevant work experience can be substituted in place of a college degree.
  • Nonprofit experience desired.
  • Conversational fluency in Spanish, or another language other than English, is a plus.
  • Experience with Excel and Power BI a plus.

  • Knowledge of the organization’s computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, department-specific software systems, telecommunications, and internet applications required.
  • Ability to attend departmental meetings and all-staff meetings as directed, staying informed of ongoing changes in departmental and overall organization.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (machines, tools, and devices) used in performing only the essential functions including computer and related equipment, calculator, and telephone.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Physical Requirements or Licenses:

  • This position has the ability to work remote, in-office, or hybrid at the discretion of the Service Insights Manager.
  • A valid driver’s license with history of a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel that may include consecutive overnight stays, and traveling by car, bus, and airplane.
  • Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, working closely with others, working alone, and working protracted or irregular hours.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 15 pounds.
  • The working environment is typically quiet.
