The School Psychologist will work closely with faculty to consult on challenging student behaviors and complicated student dynamics, helping to create classroom environments aligned with the school’s mission.

The School Psychologist and Behavioral Consultant will work primarily with Lower School faculty, students, and parents, while also providing consultative support to the Early Childhood program as needed. This position reports to the Director of Student Services and works in close partnership with the Lower School and Early Childhood Division Directors.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Enabling students and teachers to enact behavioral plans that support a full inclusion model for all students
  • Working with the Lower School and Early Childhood Student Support Teams (SST) to address a variety of student needs using multidisciplinary team decision-making
  • Leading student counseling groups, including groups for new students as well as other groups based on specific community needs
  • Providing short-term individual school counseling services to Lower School students with social-emotional or behavioral needs
  • Serving as a liaison between students’ parents and outside care providers to promote continuity of care between home, school, and any other relevant stakeholders
  • Implementing the Lower School Feedback program and other social-emotional curricula alongside Lower School faculty so that students are able to identify and express their feelings in a proactive manner
  • Interpreting student data in order to aid the Director of the Lower School in making decisions regarding the vision of the division
  • Supporting the full Lower School community in implementing assessments for literacy and numeracy that help SST to help all students grow
  • Partnering with families by sharing research-based resources with them, communicating about their child’s school experiences, and serving as an advocate to support a student’s best interest at home and school
  • Participating in and contributing to Counseling team and Student Services department initiatives, including supporting students and faculty across other divisions as needed and providing clinical supervision to graduate student interns (dependent upon credentials)
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services and Lower School and Early Childhood Directors

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in School Psychology, with a preference for someone with a doctorate (PhD, PsyD, or EdD) who is licensed or working towards licensure (ongoing clinical supervision from a licensed Psychologist may be available for those seeking licensure)
  • Experience working with young children in a school environment
  • Experience teaching within a special education inclusion setting preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with teaching faculty
  • Commitment to Quaker education and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
