Position Description Summary

Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise in the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance.




Duties

Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach the following.


The most frequent needs of the Department include:Applied Music Instructors (private lessons and weekly studio class) and Music Student Teacher Supervisors


Anticipated needs for the 2024-2025 academic year also include: Ensemble Directors (Marching Band, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Bloomsburg campus; Orchestra, Mansfield campus) and Music Technology Instruction (Bloomsburg campus)


The location for these temporary positions varies with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.



Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)

Minimum Requirements:


Applied Music Instructor Position

  • Master’s degree in music discipline, education or related field
  • Record of performance and pedagogy experience

Music Student Teacher Supervision Position

  • Master’s degree in education, music discipline or related field
  • Music teaching experience


Ensemble Director Position

  • Master’s degree in music education, conducting, or related field
  • Experience conducting music ensembles


Music Technology Position

  • Master’s degree in music technology or related field, or equivalent experience in music recording technologies and/or live sound reinforcement



Preferred Qualifications:


Applied Music Instructor Position

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach, evaluate, and advise students
  • Extensive knowledge of appropriate pedagogy and literature
  • Additional education
  • Ability to teach other coursework


Music Student Teacher Supervision Position

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach, evaluate, and advise students
  • Experience working with pre-service music teachers and college students
  • 10 years of music teaching experience


Ensemble Director Position

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach, evaluate, and advise students
  • Experience conducting college ensembles
  • Extensive knowledge of appropriate college ensemble repertoire


Music Technology Position

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach, evaluate, and advise students
  • Ability to teach other coursework, including applied music lessions (instrument or voice)

Background Clearances

Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
