General Purpose:
Senior Piping Designers provides advanced 3D modeling, drawing development, and technical oversight. This position supports the full project lifecycle, from conceptual layout through shop drawing release, ensuring constructible and fabrication-ready deliverables that align with MTS standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. Sr. Designers may individually contribute to a project or may be asked to lead a team of designers on a project basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, check, and manage 3D CAD models of industrial systems and facilities.
- Prepare and check piping/process deliverables (isometrics, orthographic plans/elevations, P&IDs, spool drawings, etc.) consistent with MTS release workflows.
- Generate and maintain BOMs and material reports to support the field and shop fabrication packages.
- Perform clash checks using Navisworks Manage, documenting and resolving design conflicts.
- Effectively translate Piping and Instrumentation Drawings into a 3D Model.
- Incorporate site data captured via point clouds or site measurements and feedback.
- Effective cross-discipline and cross-department communication and coordination.
- Advise on design principles and standards.
- Work on multiple projects on a continuous basis.
- Conduct field walkdowns and as-built verification.
- Monitor and report weekly on the status of current design projects.
- Communicates technical information effectively with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Effectively communicate and project the principles of the Talent Advantaged Roadmap.
- Collaborative mindset aligned with MTS's "Design-Build" business model.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Vocational training, Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- 10 years minimum of relevant design experience. Understanding of design codes, standards, and specifications.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and piping specifications.
- Subject matter expertise in relevant CAD software.
- Display a good working knowledge of industry standard design practices, good mechanical aptitude, and general knowledge of industrial design.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all levels in the company.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information.
- Ability to attain and promote good customer relationships (both internal and external).
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Meets the qualifications and is capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of a Piping Designer.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word with intermediate skills in Excel and Outlook.
