Make a difference through movement! We're looking for a passionate and motivating Rock Steady Boxing Instructor to lead specialized fitness classes for individuals living with Parkinson's disease. In this role, you'll design and deliver progressive, non-contact boxing and functional fitness workouts that improve strength, balance, mobility, and confidence in a safe, supportive environment.The ideal candidate is an encouraging leader who is compassionate, energetic, and committed to helping participants achieve their personal goals while fostering a welcoming community where everyone can thrive.POSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Leads disease prevention and management programs with a high level of efficacy; understands program content and the importance of following protocol for evidence based programsDevelops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.Promotes program to community partners and seeks to establish relationships with community organizations for the purpose of expanding the reach of our programs.Engages with YMCA members and staff to promote disease management and prevention programs internally for employee wellness. Conveys information on wellness programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).Maintains HIPAA complianceFollows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.Attend required staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications.Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.Trains and supervises class aides as assigned. LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:CommunicationDeveloping Self & OthersEngaging CommunityQUALIFICATIONS:Current CPR Pro/First Aid/AED Certification1 evidence based or health awareness program certification/training:YMCA Disease Management or Prevention program certification: Diabetes Prevention Program, Healthy Weight and Your Child or LIVESTRONG at the YMCA National certification: Rock Steady Boxing, Pedaling for Parkinson's, Delay the Disease, etc.National education program training: Alzheimer's Association, Freedom From Smoking, etcHas at least 1 year experience with delivering evidence-based programming and performing the associated data collection or 1 year experience working as a YMCA Wellness Instructor or Personal TrainerExperience working with special populations (older adults, individuals with mobility impairment, etc)Complete the following list of trainings/certifications within the first month of hire:Living our CauseWellness Center at the Y Principles of Member Health and Wellness Certification Listen First Training Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y HIPAA Privacy and Security CertificationWORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Ability to instruct and observe health seekers with proper form and technique.Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly and 45 pounds of force occasionally.Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift grasp, talk, make repetitive motions, see and hear.Ability to set up a seminar/discussion space by moving chairs, tables and carrying supplies such as a laptop, projector, program guides and participant kits.Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
