PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

This is an Advance (B) and Entry (C) level position

The anticipated start date for this position will be in June 2026

Advance level

 

Installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing High Voltage Equipment and Systems in Electrical Substations or installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing Distribution Automation (DA) Equipment and Systems throughout the PECO service territory. This position requires adherence to safe work practices and the support of a safe work culture, including ability to follow Safety and Work Procedures. Typically, this person would be an Engineering Technician A or in progression and will be expected to progress to Engineering Technician A (Journey Level). The ability to work various shifts may be required. The work is in both inside and outside at various substation or recloser locations. The job requires the ability to respond to emergency situations in various roles. Work includes job site reporting across the PECO service territory.

 

Entry Level

 

This is an entry level position with duties of installing, maintaining and repairing Electrical Substation Protective Systems, such as Protective Relaying, System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Communications Systems, adherence to safe work practices and the support of a safe work culture, including ability to follow procedures. Typically, this person would be in progression and be expected to progress to Engineering Technician A. This position would be expected to be able to achieve basis skills to assist Engineering Technician A and Master Technicians. The ability to work various shifts may be required. The work is often in outside field conditions at various substations and equipment locations. The job requires the ability to respond to emergency situations in various roles. Work includes job site reporting across the PECO service territory

Primary Duties:

 

Advanced Level

 

Work safely using proper work procedures and work practices. - 2 Perform programming, testing, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance and repair testing on various DA components and equipment; or perform maintenance and repair testing circuit breakers, transfer switches, power (oil) transformers, instrument (CTs, VTs, CCVTs) transformers, motors, bushings/insulators, circuit switchers, capacitors, etc. - 3 Support the communication performance of reclosers and other DA devices including monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing and installing communication devices; or Perform apparatus, diagnostic, and control system testing. including: resistance, power factor, harmonic/frequency, doble, TTR, grounding, short circuit, etc. - 4 Interpret test results and assist Engineering with the trending of test data. - 5 Must and be able to perform Secondary Storm Restoration duties. - 6 Must be able to work from heights using 32-foot extension Ladders, Bucket Trucks and Man Lifts.

 

Entry Level

 

Work safely using proper work procedures and work practices. - 2 Perform diagnostic testing on substation power equipment. - 3 Interpret test results and assist Engineering with the trending of test data. - 4 Perform work with Substation Maintenance crews in conjunction with maintenance and installations as required. - 5 Complete required work management planning and work reporting tasks as required.

Job Scope: JOB SCOPE
Minimum Qualifications:

 

Advanced Level

    • Ability to work at heights to forty (40) feet or more from ladders, aerial man lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding or on top of transformers; and work in severe weather conditions
    • Ability to pass and maintain requirements for NERC unescorted substation access
    • Ability to pass and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Certification
    • Two (2) year Degree/ education in an Electronic/ Electrical discipline and/or equivalent. Equivalent has been defined as
        1. Post-secondary education in Computer Science / Electronic Engineering or a related field and
        2. an additional four (4) years of relevant work.
      • Must receive a recommended test result on required EEI pre-employment testing
      • Must be able to demonstrate hands on experience with one (1) of the two (2) of the following
        1. Electromechanical / Microprocessor Protective Relays
        2. Automatic Voltage and SCADA equipment
      • Valid Driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards
      • Regular access to an insured personal vehicle
      • Must be able to report to various work locations in the PECO service territory AND must be able to work shifts as needed
      • Knowledge of electrical theory and concepts (e.g. AC/DC electrical theory)
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Proficient in the use of computers and software applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project).
      • Must be able to respond to emergency situations (7 days a week, 24 hours a day).
      • Maintain Fitness for Duty standards per company guidelines
      • This position is based on a pay progression scale $47.75

 

Entry Level

  • 2-year associate degree in a relevant technical discipline and/or equivalent. - Equivalent had been defined as
    • 1. post-secondary education in electrical / electronic engineering or a related field and
    • 2. an additional two (2) years of relevant work-related experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Transmission, Distribution and Industrial electrical power equipment.
  • Proficient in use of computers and software applications (e. g. MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project and computerized maintenance management systems, Passport.)
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations (7 days a week, 24 hours a day) .
  • This position is based on a pay progression scale $35.08

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Advance:

  • Four (4) year degree in Electronic / Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Six (6) years’ experience with Protective Relaying, SCADA, and Communication Control Systems
  • Experienced with Data equipment such as the Doble DUC, ASE Test Set and Asset Suite.
  • Must be able to demonstrate hands on experience with I & C (Instrument and Controls)

 

Entry:

  • Four (4) year degree in Electronic / Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Experience with Protective Relaying, and Communication Control Systems
  • Proficiency with Maintenance Management Systems such as Asset Suite and Cascade
  • Knowledge of Transmission, Distribution and Industrial electrical power equipment, including a good working knowledge of Apparatus Testing.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Certification
  • Must be able to work from heights using 40-foot extension Ladders, Bucket Trucks and Man Lifts
