UPMC Hamot's Special Procedures department is seeking a dedicated Invasive Cardiac Technologist to join our team full-time. Position Highlights:

  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM or 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
  • On-Call Requirements: Rotational call coverage for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Weekend Rotation: Average of one weekend in a 4-week schedule
  • Holiday Rotation: Two holidays per year, based on departmental rotation
  • Residency Requirement: Must live within 30 minutes of UPMC Hamot to ensure timely response during on-call hours

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus of $10,000 with a 2-year work commitment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performed.
  • Maintain continuing education and competency requirements for position.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect.
  • Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
  • Identify all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilize universal protocol when performing procedures.
  • Review patient history and assess physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data.
  • Document patient history in electronic record as required.
  • Maintain point of care testing standards, including daily quality control, for devices used for procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patients' fears and solicit their cooperation.
  • Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Exhibit a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations, and patient monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrate competency in functioning in the first assist position.
  • Foster an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process.
  • Administer contrast under the direction of the procedure physician.
  • Support other departments as directed or assigned.
  • Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operation of both equipment and supplies.
  • Some responsibilities may not be applicable due to specific job locations.
  • Provide stand by call coverage, as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy.
  • Practice with attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient as well as others in the procedure room, including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices.
  • Assure documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.

Required:

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT-R) or Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS).

Preferred:

  • Two or more years of experience.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT Certificate OR Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist OR Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist required.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • ACLS certification is desired upon hire.
  • Successful completion of ACLS certification required within orientation period.
  • New graduates have 1 year to obtain their board certification.
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire/transfer
  • ARRT Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiology OR ARRT Certificate OR Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist OR Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Echocardiograph and Ultrasound
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
