SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Infrastructure Maintenance & Construction Services (IMCS) Operations Support Department develops the strategy and implements business processes and systems solutions collaboratively across IMCS to promote best practices in infrastructure asset management. Within IMCS Operations Support, the Infrastructure GIS team supports IMCS field personnel and Amtrak’s Engineering disciplines—Track, Communications & Signals, Bridges & Buildings, Electric Traction, and Roadway Equipment—by maintaining a complete, location-based asset inventory; providing spatial data analytics; providing the asset data used by the IMCS Asset Management System; and developing end user GIS-based tools for data collection and reporting. The Infrastructure GIS team continually works to build Amtrak’s capabilities for geoanalysis to better understand IMCS data and contribute to strategic solutions to business problems.


The Sr GIS Analyst is responsible for updating, maintaining, and ensuring asset data accuracy in the Esri-based infrastructure geodatabase for IMCS/Engineering discipline assets. The Sr GIS Analyst develops applications to support field data collections. The Sr GIS Analyst performs field collections as needed, coordinating with the Engineering Asset Management Team to ensure that infrastructure asset geodatabase updates are accurately pushed to Maximo, Amtrak’s asset management system. The Sr GIS Analyst works with the Data Analytics team to assist with data integration workflows to provide quality data analytics end-products using geospatial information. The Sr GIS Analyst develops maps and analytics dashboards using Esri-based tools.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Update location and asset attribute information in the Infrastructure GIS database, ArcGIS applications, and web maps, when infrastructure assets are reconfigured or newly installed in the field.
• Develop and maintain GIS mobile solutions for data collections using Esri applications.
• Perform field asset collections as needed.
• Interface with the various Engineering disciplines to collect required master asset data and incorporate the updates and changes into the Infrastructure GIS database so it can be pushed to Maximo, Amtrak’s asset management system, where it is utilized for work orders and inspection regimens.
• Assist with systematic expansion of the infrastructure asset registry, including components and sub-assemblies and attributes required for inspections, tests, and work management.
• Assist with automation of data cleansing activities.
• Utilize GIS to perform spatial analyses.
• Utilize Esri applications to create interactive infrastructure asset information dashboards for end users.
• Support implementation of Amtrak’s Linear Referencing System (LRS).
• Support development and maintenance of FRA-mandated Track Charts.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3 years GIS experience, preferably in the Transportation, Railroad, or Utility industries.
• Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS and knowledge of GIS data types, relational database management systems (RDBMS), spatial analysis, and cartography.
• Ability to collect, manage, analyze, model, and present spatial data.
• Data collection and processing experience using LiDAR, GPS, and Esri tools.
• Experience with programming languages, such as SQL and Python, to create GIS script customizations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work productively in both independent and team environments.
• Ability to build relationships with all levels of the organization and communicate complex information effectively.
• Superior organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

• Experience with developing, deploying, and maintaining Esri mobile applications including Field Maps, Quick Capture, and Survey123.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in Geographic Information Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience with Esri applications including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, ArcGIS Roads and Highways or other linear referencing systems, Network Analyst, Survey123, StoryMaps, etc.
• Applied experience with database programming languages (SQL, R, Python), front end design languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), developer packages such as Jupyter Notebooks, and LiDAR post processing software.
• Asset management experience or IAM training.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Office and field work environment. 
• Travel up to 40%. 
• Amtrak runs a 24/7 operation with around-the-clock work shifts. Meeting attendance may be required outside of normal business hours to gather requirements from users working different shifts. 
• Travel to other Amtrak offices and right-of-way sites that are not accessible by train travel

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary/hourly range is $78,600-$101,844, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
