Field Manager – Refrigeration Systems

A growing engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Field Manager – Refrigeration Systems to support industrial and commercial refrigeration projects from initial bid development through design, installation, startup, commissioning, and ongoing service. This role serves as a key technical resource bridging engineering, field operations, and customer support to ensure successful project execution and long-term system performance.

Responsibilities

Proposal & Pre-Construction Support

• Review project specifications, drawings, and customer requirements to support accurate bid preparation.
• Assist in developing project budgets and cost estimates.
• Perform refrigeration load calculations and equipment sizing.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Support conceptual refrigeration system design, equipment selection, and room layout development.
• Assist in preparing technical proposal packages and preliminary system configurations.

Engineering & Design

• Size and select refrigeration system components, including valves, piping, controls, and associated equipment.
• Develop comprehensive equipment lists for procurement and project execution.
• Review and approve refrigeration system layouts and piping drawings.
• Evaluate engineering drawings for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
• Review and approve technical submittals before release to customers and contractors.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate closely with electrical, controls, and software engineering teams.
• Ensure seamless integration between mechanical and control systems.
• Coordinate project activities across engineering, field, and service departments.

Leadership & Training

• Provide technical mentorship and training to engineers, technicians, and junior team members.
• Share best practices related to refrigeration system design, installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Support team development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Field Support & Commissioning

• Provide technical guidance during equipment installation and startup activities.
• Assist field personnel with installation challenges and technical problem-solving.
• Conduct or support commissioning activities to verify proper system performance.
• Ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and according to design intent.

Service & Customer Support

• Assist service teams with troubleshooting and resolving refrigeration system issues.
• Provide advanced support for complex mechanical and controls-related problems.
• Recommend corrective actions and system improvements.
• Serve as a technical resource for customers regarding system operation, performance, and reliability.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
• Minimum 10 years of experience with industrial and/or commercial refrigeration systems.
• Strong background in refrigeration equipment sizing, piping design, and system layout.
• Knowledge of industry standards and codes, including ASHRAE, IIAR, and related regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Experience working with engineering, construction, commissioning, and service teams.
