Job Description
This role supports roadway construction and maintenance projects by safely directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around active work zones. You work 100% outdoors, typically Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays, for 8–10 hour shifts. After completing a short online training and a one‑day orientation, you are dispatched daily from home via a mobile app to job sites within roughly a one‑hour radius of the main shop in the greater Pittsburgh region.
Responsibilities
- Direct and control traffic using stop/slow paddles, hand signals, and radios to maintain safe movement through work zones.
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades in line with company and state standards.
- Monitor road and worksite conditions and adjust traffic control patterns as needed to ensure safety for workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with crew members, supervisors, and the public to coordinate safe operations.
- Follow all safety protocols at all times and immediately report hazards, incidents, or equipment issues.
- Stand for extended periods and remain alert and attentive throughout the shift in all weather conditions.
- Complete a 3–4 hour online flagging training course prior to attending orientation, using a smartphone with Chrome if needed.
- Use personal steel‑toe or composite boots that extend above the ankle when working in the field.
- Travel to and work at construction and utility job sites within Washington region, Oakdale, Washington, Fredericktown, Millsboro, Canonsburg.
Essential Skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to reach various job sites and orientation.
- Ability to work 100% outdoors on active construction and roadway jobs in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift approximately 30–50 lbs as part of setting up and removing traffic control equipment.
- Strong situational awareness to quickly recognize and respond to changing traffic and worksite conditions.
- Clear verbal communication skills to coordinate with crews, supervisors, and members of the public.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional when interacting with drivers and pedestrians.
- Traffic control or flagging certification, or willingness to obtain one through provided training.
- Comfort using a smartphone and web browser (such as Chrome) to complete online training and receive daily dispatch information.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior flagging experience and possession of an ATSSA flagging card, which may allow you to bypass the 3–4 hour training course.
- Previous construction, roadway, or general labor experience supporting field crews or utility work.
- Experience with traffic management or traffic control in active work zones.
- Steel‑toe or composite work boots that extend above the ankle (required for field work).
- Ability to use radios and other communication devices to coordinate traffic control activities.
- Willingness to travel to multiple locations within a one‑hour radius of the shop in the greater Pittsburgh area.
- Interest in growing into more advanced roles in traffic control, with potential access to a company vehicle upon promotion.

Work Environment
This position is 100% outdoors on active construction and utility jobs, working in all weather conditions and around live traffic. You typically work 8–10 hour shifts Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays as needed. After a one‑day, in‑office orientation that starts at 7:00 a.m., you are dispatched each day from home via a mobile app to sites within roughly a one‑hour radius of the shop, including communities in the north, central, south, and Washington areas of the greater Pittsburgh region. The work involves standing for extended periods, lifting traffic control equipment, and maintaining focus in fast‑changing environments. Personal steel‑toe or composite boots that extend above the ankle are required on site, and additional PPE is provided at orientation to ensure you are properly equipped for safe field work.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
