Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for an Application Research & Development Technician (Combustion). This role will be based at our global headquarters in Allentown, PA.

The successful candidate will serve as the Lead Operator of the Combustion Diagnostics Laboratory (CDL), which houses a versatile 2 MWth multi-fuel and multi-oxidizer combustion furnace. This furnace is used as a development platform for commercial combustion technologies across various industries. Responsibilities include planning and executing tests, hazard assessment and mitigation, equipment layout, setup, breakdown, and troubleshooting. The role is customer-focused and occasionally requires domestic travel to support customer trials, offering a collaborative and dynamic R&D environment.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Candidates are strongly preferred to have an associate degree or certificate in mechanical or electrical technology and or at least five years of industrial work experience in manufacturing or pilot plant settings.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent hands-on mechanical skills
  • Good organizational abilities
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and controls is preferred
  • A self-motivated attitude with a strong desire to learn and succeed
