Full-Time Learning Support Teacher (Reading & Math Lower Grades) 26/27 School Year
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Teacher to provide small group reading support for students in grades 2–5 and math support for students in grades 3–5. The ideal candidate will have experience in reading and math instruction, an understanding of differentiated instruction, and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.
In this role, the teacher will play a key part in strengthening students’ early literacy skills, with a focus on phonics instruction and foundational reading strategies in the lower grades. They will also support the development of foundational math skills, design and implement targeted math interventions, and monitor student progress to ensure growth over time. The Learning Support Teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers and families to identify student needs, provide individualized instruction, and track outcomes to support each learner’s academic journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide targeted small group reading support to students in grades 2-5 and small group math support to students in grades 3-5, helping to improve foundational skills.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to understand student needs, monitor progress, and adapt instruction accordingly.
Support teachers in implementing accommodations for students with accommodation plans, including but not limited to modifying assignments and ensuring accessibility, as well as collaborating in the development of classroom interventions.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and administrators.
Participate in meetings with student support teams to discuss individual student progress and strategies.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.
Qualifications, Competencies, & Characteristics:
Experience and training in Waldorf Education preferred but not required.
Bachelor's degree in education or special education. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience in reading and math instruction, particularly in small group settings.
Familiarity with classroom accommodations and differentiation strategies for diverse learners.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and parents.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.
Accountability (supported by and reports to):
The Learning Support Teacher reports to and receives support from the Director of Student Support Services and the Faculty Administrator.
Hours:
This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week.
