As part of our Shared Services group, comprised of Finance, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Commercial, Legal and Facilities, we support the business achieve their goals through a range of strong technical capabilities. We ensure delivery of services through the skills of our people, methodologies, and systems.
This position is based in our Pittsburgh office, located on the North Shore between the two stadiums. At Hatch, we greatly value in-person interaction and collaboration and are therefore an in-office environment. While flexibility is always provided to work remotely when needed, we encourage our teams to be in the office daily. In this role, you will be a member of a supportive team of experienced, collaborative HR professionals, partnering with our business leaders solving the world’s toughest problems.
Overview
The Payroll Manager oversees end-to-end U.S. payroll operations for 800+ employees, including domestic employees and international assignees. This role ensures accurate, timely payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of payroll systems and workflows. The Payroll Manager also leads and develops the U.S. payroll team while partnering cross-functionally to support other HR team members.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
- Lead and execute bi-weekly payroll processing for 800+ U.S. employees, including expatriates and international assignees.
- Review and validate payroll data including new hires, terminations, employee changes, and domestic/international transfers.
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and develop members of the U.S. payroll team to ensure operational excellence, clear prioritization, and professional growth.
- Oversee daily workflow, provide guidance, and implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Compliance & Audit Oversight
- Oversee audits including 401(k), workers’ compensation, and internal/external payroll audits as required.
- Maintain compliance with multi-state payroll tax regulations, wage-and-hour laws, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Administer tax registrations and manage ongoing reporting by Dayforce with state and local agencies.
- Process and monitor wage garnishments in alignment with legal requirements.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and technology teams on system integration and enhancement projects to optimize payroll processes.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and implement solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience/skills:
- Experience with Dayforce software and SAP software, which we use for time tracking
- Experience with end-to-end payroll processing, including review of variances between pay
- Familiarity with unemployment –monitor and respond to all unemployment requests and parental leave requests that go through the various state systems
- Familiarity with processing payroll for internationally mobilized employees, including shadow payroll and foreign retirement contributions
