Security Officer - UPMC Somerset
Are you ready to make a meaningful impact while joining a tight‑knit, family‑oriented team? UPMC Somerset is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.
This full-time role will work 3rd or Night shift, with hours being 7 P.M. – 7 A.M., including rotating weekends and holidays.
As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff and all UPMC owned and adjacent properties. The Security Officer establishes a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement when necessary. They monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to and resolve problems, dispute any unusual circumstances as necessary, provide customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment, and document incidents on appropriate reports as required.
Previous security experience is beneficial but not required. W
e are seeking motivated individuals who are interested in starting a career in the security field. This role provides valuable experience supporting the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff, while serving as an excellent pathway into security and law enforcement careers.
This full-time position also offers a $1,500 sign-on bonus with a 2‑year work commitment, recognizing the valuable contribution you make from your very first day!
Responsibilities:
- Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas
- Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft
- Responds to and resolves problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary.
- Maintain required certifications and licensing
- Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists
- Transport deceased to morgue/release bodies from morgue
- Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to alarms and assist when needed.
- Establish a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement when necessary.
- Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code
- Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details
- Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines
- Report and document incidents, suspicious activities and hazards
