Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room / Circulation & Scrub Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 hr shifts M-F; rotating shifts 0630-1500, 0900-1730, and 1100-1930 Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience License: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required; BSN preferred. Knowledge of peri-operative nursing practices. Effectively functions as a team member and a liaison between patient and staff. Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills are essential. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with patients and families. Description: This position is responsible to the Director of Surgical Services, Unit Director/Manager, and Clinical Supervisor for overall nursing practice. Professional nursing care is provided based on current perioperative nursing knowledge. The nursing process includes assessment of the patient and relevant health data. Collected data is analyzed based on perioperative nursing theory and experience. A plan of care is developed to meet patient needs. Nursing interventions are implemented based on current practice standards. Evaluation of patient care outcomes for all age populations is conducted. The plan of care includes identifying patient strengths and weaknesses. The plan is continually updated to address existing or potential problems. Goals and nursing interventions are clearly stated based on patient assessments. Supplies and equipment for surgical care must be readily available and functional. A sterile field must be maintained throughout procedures based on aseptic principles. Perioperative nursing techniques are implemented effectively. Recognizing changes in healthcare status is crucial for directing appropriate care and ensuring patient safety. Documentation of individualized changes in the plan of care is necessary. Health education is provided to patients and their families regarding surgical processes. Responsibility for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in perioperative nursing is accepted. Awareness of professional issues and current trends is essential for continued education.
