Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Aquatic Manager with training and certification of Manheim Township lifeguards. This lifeguard role leads regular in-services and trainings of Aquatic-specific rescues, First Aid, CPR, and life-supporting skills.

Essential functions

1. Protect the safety and health of all patrons.
2. Provide excellent customer service through consistent, fair, and courteous enforcement of rules.
3. Maintain work area and surrounding environment.
4. Assists with keeping the facility clean.
5. Ensures that all PA Department of Health and Lancaster County Safety Guidelines are always followed.

Related functions

1. Assists with enforcement of pool policies and procedures in absence of pool manager.

1. Ability to demonstrate physical fitness to include frequent light
2. to occasional heavy lifting (up to 70 lbs.), swimming, standing, and walking for long periods of time, bending, pushing, and pulling.
3. Able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
4. Ability to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
5. Ability to talk, hear, and see.

Competencies

1. Ability to provide direct leadership and instruction during training exercises.
2. Knows and understands emergency procedures.
3. Ability to maintain focus and alertness while training staff.

Skills

1. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of Red Cross lifeguard, CPR, and first aid skills.
2. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.

1. Punctual attendance at both the Tuesday (7:00am) and Saturday (8:00am) staff in-services throughout the summer.
2. Occasional weekend and weekday evening availability throughout the calendar year to teach Lifeguarding course.
3. Maintain a safe learning environment for all lifeguard student-learners.
4. Ability to demonstrate and perform all American Red Cross Lifeguarding skills to the standards set forth by that organization.
5. Effectively communicate processes of learning and expectations of skill progression.
6. Attendance at the pre season training meeting on May 6th from 7-8 pm
7. Punctual attendance to preseason training May 16 and 17th from 7am-6 pm.

Required Education and Experience

1. Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
2. Must be at least 18 years old

Preferred Education and Experience

1. 2+ Years Lifeguarding experience
2. Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
3. Prior lifeguard training experience
