Job Title: Lead Trailer Mechanic

Job Description

The Lead Mechanic will oversee and assign tasks to a team of mechanics and fabricators, ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of trucks and trailers while enforcing safety protocols and managing inventory and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assign tasks and supervise a team of mechanics and fabricators.
• Make necessary repairs on trucks and trailers.
• Enforce safety protocols across all operations.
• Manage inventory and maintain equipment effectively.
• Monitor project timelines, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
• Conduct quality control checks before trailers leave the shop.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to team members.

Essential Skills

• Ability to supervise and lead a maintenance team.
• Strong experience in trailer and truck maintenance, including repairs and troubleshooting of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Comprehensive mechanical knowledge with the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in trailer repair, fabrication, or related heavy-equipment maintenance.
• Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
• Proficiency with shop tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Excellent organizational skills focusing on safety, compliance, and efficiency.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, vendors, and customers.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, and suspension components.
• Familiarity with welding processes.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Forklift or heavy-lifting equipment certification.
• Basic computer skills for work order management and inventory tracking.
• CDL A with Tank and hazmat preferred but not required.

Work Environment

Work alongside the Maintenance Manager and a team of 5-6 technicians. The position operates on the 1st shift, Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM, with the possibility of being on-call if needed. Enjoy a 1-hour lunch break. The dress code is industrial type clothing.

This is a Permanent position based out of Chester, NY.

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
