What will I do in this role? Leadership & Strategy
- Collaborate with Senior Dean of Campus Life and the Assistant Director for Campus Life & Student Engagement to set a compelling, student-centered vision for Campus Life that advances belonging, well-being, academic success, and community engagement.
- Serve as a core member within the newly created Campus Life team, aligning residential living, First‑Year Experience philosophies, campus programming, and retention initiatives with institutional priorities and the College’s liberal arts mission.
- Partner closely with the Senior Director of Campus Life and the Assistant Director of Campus Life & Student Engagement as well as collaborate regularly with the Dean of Students to shape campus culture, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional student success work.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director and Assistant Director of Campus Life Operations with the housing operations across approximately 1,000 residential beds, including hall openings/closings, assignments and selection, room changes, occupancy management, and retention-focused strategies.
- Ensure accurate documentation and process integrity (e.g., Room Condition Reports, community standards documentation, work orders, and occupancy reporting).
- Coordinate facilities stewardship with Public Safety, Buildings & Grounds, and campus partners to maintain safe, healthy, and welcoming environments.
- Lead health and safety inspections; support fire safety education and emergency preparedness.
- Design and oversee a holistic Upper-Class Experience, including Independent Living, within residential communities that promotes through college and the transition beyond collegiate experience, community building, academic habits, independent living skills, and identity development.
- Collaborate with Student Success, Academic Affairs, Advising, and Student Engagement to align programmatic initiatives in social and educational areas.
- Assess Upper-Class residential experience and initiative outcomes and refine programs using data-informed practices.
- Provide leadership with Affinity Housing on campus.
- Assist in facilitating the College’s student conduct system within the Community Standards framework, ensuring processes are fair, educational, timely, and consistent with institutional policy and applicable laws.
- Develop educational sanctions, reflection-based learning, and community‑repair approaches that reinforce student growth and responsibility.
- Maintain strong case management practices and coordinate follow-up for students of concern with Counseling, Health Services, and other partners.
- Supports the Assistant Director of Campus Life & Student Engagement with programmatic efforts.
- Promote inclusive, relationship-centered communities across all residential units (upper‑class, apartment living, and first‑year areas); ensure visibility, approachability, and supportive engagement with residents.
- Partner on campus-wide educational initiatives (e.g., Alcohol Awareness Week, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, wellness programming) that reflect diverse identities and experiences.
- Support and help plan, implement, and staff campus-wide programming initiatives from Campus Life and the Dean of Students offices.
- Supervision and coaching for student staff (RAs and other paraprofessionals) across assigned residential areas.
- Lead inclusive recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing development for student staff; promote creativity, innovation, and accountability.
- Foster a positive staff culture grounded in recognition, growth, collaboration, and student‑centered service.
- Participate in and provide leadership for the campus‑wide after‑hours/weekend on‑call duty rotation, responding to crises including mental health concerns, alcohol/drug incidents, and medical emergencies.
- Guide and coach on-call RAs and professional staff; ensure effective response, documentation, and follow-up with students of concern.
- Support the Senior Director in assessment initiatives for residential housing program and conduct/community standards: student satisfaction, engagement, community trends, program impact, conduct outcomes, staff performance, etc.
- Collaborate with Dean of Students and Senior Director to use data and student feedback to enhance programs, policies, and operations; prepare reports that inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
- Work closely with Campus Life partners, Counseling & Health Services, OLE, Kieper Recreation & Intramural Sports, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, Buildings & Grounds, and Athletics to support a cohesive student experience.
- Contribute to major campus traditions and events including but not limited to:
- Move In/ Opening
- Welcome Week/First Weekend
- Involvement Fair
- Homecoming
- Fall Carnival
- Concerts and performances
- Thanksgiving Dinner
- Late Night Breakfast
- Support coordination of the campus events calendar and communication channels to elevate awareness and participation in residential and campus life activities.
- Serve on College committees and task forces aligned with student success, community well-being, and campus culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support institutional priorities and the mission of the Division of Student Affairs & Success.
Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or a related field preferred.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Previous years of progressive experience in residential life or other higher education areas, including but not limited to student life programming, administration, and supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate programs successfully with other college departments, experience in group facilitation and conflict resolution, student staff training and development, budget and occupancy planning and management, computer literacy, and a commitment to diversity is necessary.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle record check annually in compliance with the College’s insurance regulation requirements and the ability to operate campus safety vehicles.
- Successful completion of ACT 153 Clearances.
