Work Schedule
Rotating 8 hour shift. Monday through Sunday. 5 daylights 6am-2pm // 5 afternoons 2pm-10pm // and 5 midnights 10pm-6am All weekends and holidays are expected to be worked when scheduled.
Primary Role
Assists the operator in the safe operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant.
Key Accountabilities
- Assists the operator in conducting water treatment control tests and calculations to ensure potable water meets system demands.
- Serves as a replacement for the operator during vacations, illness, or other absences.
- Unloads and handles chemicals, sets manual chemical adjustments, and performs maintenance and cleaning tasks.
- Reads and interprets charts, gauges, graphs, and SCADA devices used in water treatment operations.
- Maintains, repairs, and installs mechanical and electrical equipment including pumps, motors, switchgear, storage tanks, compressors, intake screens, and chemical feed systems.
- Collaborates with maintenance personnel for equipment repair and installation as needed.
- Conducts inspection trips to pumping and treatment facilities, reports plant conditions, and makes necessary corrections.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the operation of all motors, pumps, switchgear, screens, chemical feed equipment and other equipment as necessary to meet the changing demand of the distribution system and related water treatment plant facilities. Excellent math, basic hydraulics, and technical skills. Able to distinguish colors. Background in maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical, electrical and related equipment. Experience in water treatment plant or related field preferred.
Experience/Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Continuing education as needed for Operator certification renewal.
Certifications & Licenses
- Once any individual is hired into or awarded an Assistant Operator/Maintenance Rotating position, he or she must take and pass the appropriate state certification examination for Class A Water License within 24 months, and apply for certification within 6 months of achieving the minimum experience requirement for certification, if he or she had not already met the minimum experience requirement upon passing the certification test.
- Required to possess and maintain a drivers license valid in the state of their residence
Work Environment
Environmental conditions including contact with water, chemicals, fumes, odors and dust as a result of working with and handling potentially hazardous water treatment and laboratory chemicals. Minimum exposure to inclement weather mostly of short duration
