Paint Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a Paint Laboratory Technician to support the Paint Specialist in technical paint testing, color development, and brand color validation activities.

The technician will perform routine laboratory testing, prepare paint panels and samples, operate laboratory testing equipment, document test results, and maintain accurate project records. The role will also provide project tracking, supplier follow-up, and cross-functional communication to ensure color standards and material evaluations progress on schedule.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with paint testing, laboratory instruments, color measurement, environmental testing, and paint performance evaluation .

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Sample Preparation

• Prepare paint panels and samples for laboratory testing and evaluation.
• Perform routine testing related to:
• • Color
  • Gloss
  • Adhesion
  • Corrosion
  • Humidity
  • Other paint performance characteristics
• Operate laboratory test equipment under supervision, including:
• • Color spectrophotometer
  • Weather-Ometer (WOM)
  • Corrosion chambers
  • Humidity cabinets
  • Ovens
  • Water immersion tanks
• Monitor ongoing laboratory tests and identify abnormalities or deviations.
• Ensure samples and test panels are properly prepared, labeled, handled, and documented.

Data Management & Documentation

• Record, organize, and enter laboratory test data into appropriate systems and project files.
• Maintain accurate records of test results, communications, supplier responses, and project status.
• Document test abnormalities, deviations, and observations.
• Maintain organized laboratory and project documentation.
• Update paint project tracking forms with current status and deadlines.

Project & Color Standard Coordination

• Track incoming color standard requests and maintain accurate project status.
• Send weekly color standard status updates to cross-functional teams.
• Follow up with internal teams regarding missing or incomplete test request forms.
• Assist with scheduling laboratory workload and organizing test queues.
• Support color development programs, including Dynamic Blue and SSP .
• Assist with tracking material evaluations and color standards.
• Support project communication and ensure testing activities remain on schedule.

Supplier & Cross-Functional Communication

• Contact suppliers to request timelines for submitted samples and materials.
• Follow up with suppliers regarding outstanding samples, testing materials, and deadlines.
• Maintain records of supplier communications and responses.
• Send standardized instructional and project-related emails.
• Communicate testing status and project updates to relevant internal teams.
• Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to support timely completion of paint development activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a laboratory, paint testing, coatings, materials testing, or related technical environment .
• Hands-on experience with laboratory testing instruments and equipment.
• Familiarity with paint performance testing .
• Experience with color measurement and evaluation.
• Ability to prepare paint panels and samples for testing.
• Strong documentation and data-entry skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized test procedures.
• Ability to monitor multiple ongoing tests and maintain accurate records.
• Strong organizational and project-tracking skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and suppliers.
• Ability to identify and report testing abnormalities or deviations.
