Position Summary:
The Laboratory Manager both designs his own experiments and novel protocols as well as performs experiments based on predetermined research protocols and objectives. Autonomously manages day-to-day research activities requiring in-depth technical knowledge and experience in a specific area or discipline. Designs and executes experimental protocols for assigned projects. Serves as an authoritative source on research practices, precedents, theory, and principles. Supervises division/sub-unit staff and ensures all projects are completed in a timely fashion. The Laboratory Manager will also be expected to keep track of lab equipment and stocks and will coordinate with external representative when required to make sure equipment is serviced when needed, as well as ordering materials and consumables required for the lab. The Laboratory Manager will be expected to facilitate interactions between lab members, and make sure that the lab runs smoothly for all involved. This position in particular will require the ability to design and implement novel methodologies related to assessment of mitochondrial DNA damage in both in vitro and in vivo settings. This will also require the ability to design, implement and maintain new organizational procedures for critical lab reagents including novel therapeutics, cell lines and other materials.

Job Details:

Required Education and Experience:
* Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field and at least four years of related Postdoctoral experience

Required Skills and Abilities:
* Cell culture and experimental knowledge.
* In vivo experience.
* Ability to train new employees.
* Ability to manage general lab activities.
* Ability to manage lab stocks.
* Ability to design and perform novel methodologies in relationship to mitochondrial assessment as well as mitochondrial DNA damage assessment.

Essential Duties:
* Running experiments. These will include cell-culture as well as in vivo experiments exploring novel therapeutic strategies primarily for small cell lung cancer.
* Training and overseeing new hires: assists with training new hires to the lab. Help new trainees learn new techniques and with general lab questions.
* Managing laboratory inventory and organization: Maintain the lab and help keep an inventory of the lab; organize general lab tasks.
* Organize and maintain all stocks within the lab, as well as design and implement organizational charts for lab liquid nitrogen stocks, lab antibody stocks, frozen cell line stocks and novel therapeutic stocks for novel therapeutic agents the lab is designing.
* Help with initial assessment and re-drafting of manuscripts within the lab
* Meeting with the PI and helping to collate data and prepare for manuscript submissions.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
