The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Shipping Containers team. This role plays a critical part in the design, analysis, and technical oversight of specialized shipping containers. You will work on cutting-edge projects to ensure the safe and efficient transport of naval cargo, leveraging advanced engineering techniques and a deep understanding of system requirements.
Key Responsibilities could include:
Design and analyze shipping containers and interface equipment for compliance with safety and operational requirements. Prepare detailed safety reports and develop technical procedures to streamline operations. Apply advanced modeling techniques using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to evaluate performance under various conditions. Plan and execute testing programs, including correlation of results with FEA models for validation and continuous improvement. Develop technical recommendations based on analysis, testing, and industry best practices. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to address challenges and drive innovative solutions. Ensure designs and analyses meet Naval Nuclear Program requirements and maintain the highest safety standards. Supporting the development of reactor servicing procedures and providing technical consultation during implementation.Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.Preferred Skills
Degrees in Mechanical or Areospace Engineering are preferred, but not required.
Experience in design, structural analysis, or container systems engineering. Clear and effective communicator of technical concepts. Experience with finite element modeling, advanced simulation techniques, and test correlation. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a rigorous engineering environment.Compensation and Benefits

$85,200.00 - $133,200.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
