This daylight-hour role, with occasional weekends, is ideal for candidates with experience in both inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy and prior leadership experience. In this role, you will provide day-to-day leadership to the team, ensuring efficient operations and a high level of patient satisfaction. Responsibilities: + Maintain staff schedules to ensure coverage and meet patient care needs. + Collect specimens via venipuncture, heel stick, fingerstick, and other methods as required, including off-site collections, following proper patient identification procedures. + Train, orient, and evaluate new employees and students; administer corrective actions as needed. + Develop, maintain, and update specimen procurement policies, procedures, and quality initiatives to improve processes and customer satisfaction. + Demonstrate dependability, independent judgment, and professional accountability while prioritizing department needs. + Promote patient safety and provide clear instructions to patients on specimen collection procedures. + Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers and respond promptly to inquiries. + Accurately register patient demographics and laboratory orders into information systems, ensuring data completeness. + Communicate unusual or problematic incidents to technical staff, supervisors, and pathologists. + Adhere to all laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, compliance, and personnel. + High school diploma or equivalent. + Associate degree in laboratory sciences preferred. + Three years phlebotomy experience required. + Hospital phlebotomy experience preferred. + Medical terminology experience required. + Prior experience in roles emphasizing a customer service focus required. + Supervisory experience preferred. + Communication skills: Must possess good oral and written skills, must be able to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of internal and external customers as well as co-workers both on the telephone and directly. + Computer/Typing skills: Knowledge of LIS computer information systems as related to specimen procurement processes and registration preferred. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred. + Must become skilled in the use of LIS. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or MLT(ASCP) with significant phlebotomy experience or equivalent preferred. + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal + Act 33 with renewal + Act 34 with renewal + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
