Position Summary :
Owned and operated by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Arts Landing is a four-acre outdoor civic space, with a grand opening at the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival in June 2026. This dynamic amenity will feature a one-acre Great Lawn, a permanent stage, Downtown’s first playground, restrooms, pickleball courts, and more. Summer 2026 activities will include food truck lunches, fitness classes, movie nights, musical performances, and family “mini-festivals,” all free and open to the general public.
Arts Landing Assistant Managers support the daily operation, activation, and stewardship of this new outdoor space. Reporting to the Director of Public Spaces and working closely with Venue Operations staff, their responsibilities include guest experience; staff, vendor, and volunteer coordination; and the successful execution of programming within a dynamic outdoor environment. This role balances hands-on physical work with real-time operational decision-making and customer service.  
This is a part-time position working primarily evening and weekend hours with some daylight opportunities. Regular evening and weekend availability is required. The Trust envisions hiring more than one individual for this position; at least one individual will likely be employed for year-round responsibilities; other individual(s) may be hired for a seasonal period (May – September).
Responsibilities will be primarily outside, with an indoor hub available. Assistant Managers will work independently as well as work with other full- and part- time staff and contractors, including those responsible for Arts Landing maintenance and security.
Assistant Managers are scheduled to work between four and eight hours per shift. Assistant Managers have no guarantee for the number of hours or events worked. Hours will be determined by the needs of the Trust and will coincide with events scheduled at Trust facilities.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required :

Education : Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, or previous experience in venue management or parks and recreation management preferred.

Work Experience : Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Outdoor park or public space operations; Recreation or facilities management; Event or venue operations; Customer service in a public-facing environment; or Arts or cultural programming support. Experience working in active outdoor environments with the public is strongly preferred.

Supervisory Experience : Prior experience managing a team in an outdoor venue, theater, retail, or front-of-house environment preferred.

Technical Skills : Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required. Comfort and familiarity with theater audio/video equipment, knowledge of how to set up AV Equipment and troubleshoot A/V issues required.

Essential Functions :

1. Operations & Visitor Experience
  • Serve as an on-site operational lead for Arts Landing during public hours, programs, and events, ensuring the space is welcoming, safe, and well-functioning for all visitors.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for park users, performers, vendors, and partners by providing information, resolving issues, and managing visitor flow.
  • Monitor overall conditions and activity levels, making real-time operational decisions.
2. Program & Event Support
  • Support the daily operation of recurring activations and special events, including concerts, fitness classes, festivals, and community programs.
  • Assist with event logistics and program setup, operation, and teardown, including placement of furniture, signage, portable amenities, basic AV equipment, and site infrastructure.
3. Site Stewardship & Physical Operations
  • Perform hands-on operations work, including lifting, moving, and storing equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Support day-to-day site readiness by ensuring park assets, tools, and supplies are staged, maintained, and ready for use.
  • Observe and report maintenance needs, cleanliness concerns, or facility issues to appropriate departments.
4. Staff & Volunteer Oversight
  • Provide on-the-ground leadership and indirect supervision to part-time staff and volunteers, modeling professional, customer-focused, and inclusive behavior.
  • Support team communication by relaying operational updates and assisting with shift coordination as needed.
5. Safety, Security, and Risk Management
  • Actively support safety and security operations through consistent communication with security staff, contractors, and Trust leadership.
  • Identify, address, and report hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly, completing incident reports as required.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) if needed, while working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
6. Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
  • Complete required performance reports following programs and events.
  • Maintain basic operational records such as inventory checklists, equipment logs, and task completion notes to support park operations.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion through daily operations, interactions, and decision-making
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibility : This position may have limited direct supervisory responsibility; however, the Assistant Manager provides indirect supervision to part time staff, and volunteers.

Decision-making responsibility : The Assistant Manager has significant discretion regarding Arts Landing operations during programs and events worked.

Budgetary responsibility : This position has no significant budget responsibility.

Physical demands : This position involves outdoor work, setting up and striking furniture, and lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required. During performances and events, walking and/or standing for extended periods is necessary.

Salary: $20/Hour
