Job Description
The Machine Operator – Finishing is responsible for removing gating and excess material from sand castings and preparing parts for final use. This role involves operating machinery and using hand and power tools to grind, drill, and assemble parts with precision while following blueprints and drawings. You will work in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility, contributing directly to high-quality production in a safety-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Remove gating and excess material from sand castings using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Operate grinding tools, drill presses, and other finishing machinery to process parts to specification.
- Perform drilling and assembly of parts according to work instructions and engineering drawings.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to ensure accurate finishing and assembly.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete finishing tasks.
- Measure and inspect parts using measuring tools to verify conformance to specifications.
- Lift and move materials and parts weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily tasks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with facility standards.
- Wear required personal protective equipment at all times and follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Stand for the duration of the assigned shift while operating machinery and performing finishing tasks.
- Monitor machinery for proper operation and report any issues or irregularities promptly.
- Follow production schedules and instructions to meet quality, safety, and efficiency targets.
Essential Skills
- Previous machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with hand and power tools used for grinding, drilling, and assembly.
- Ability to operate machinery safely and consistently, demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
- Ability to use measuring tools to verify part dimensions and quality.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand for the entire assigned shift.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Good hand–eye dexterity for precise finishing and assembly work.
- Ability to comply with and follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Willingness and ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Prior manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Machine shop experience is a plus.
- Strong mechanical ability and comfort working with industrial equipment.

Work Environment
This role is based in a medium-sized, climate-controlled manufacturing facility that maintains a fairly clean and orderly environment. The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with potential additional work on Fridays as needed. You will primarily stand throughout your shift while operating machinery and performing finishing tasks. The facility requires the use of personal protective equipment, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and other safety gear as applicable. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to established procedures while working with grinding tools, drill presses, and other production equipment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.38 - $18.38/hr.
