Job Description
The Import Manager – Trade Compliance oversees company-wide compliance with U.S. import regulations and leads the end-to-end management of import activities. This role manages workflows with import brokers to minimize duties, tariffs, and fees, and ensures timely clearance of incoming shipments including spare parts, components, systems, and aircraft. The position prepares and reviews all required import documentation, assigns HTS and Schedule B codes, applies for necessary licenses, and ensures adherence to Customs and Border Protection regulations for hardware, software, data, and services. The Import Manager develops and improves internal import-management structures, due-diligence screening processes, and regulatory compliance controls, while supporting the design, implementation, and training of trade-compliance policies related to import activity. Working closely with the Export function and leadership, this role interprets evolving regulations, advises on mitigation strategies, and assesses trade-compliance risks when dealing with non-U.S. entities across all business functions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee company-wide compliance with U.S. import regulations across all relevant business units.
- Manage workflows with import brokers to minimize duties, tariffs, and fees while maintaining full regulatory compliance.
- Ensure timely clearance of all incoming shipments, including spare parts, components, systems, and aircraft.
- Prepare, review, and maintain all required import documentation for shipments of hardware, software, data, and services.
- Assign accurate HTS and Schedule B codes to imported items and maintain consistent classification practices.
- Apply for and manage all necessary import-related licenses and authorizations.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations and other applicable import laws and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal import-management structures and processes.
- Design and manage due-diligence screening processes for non-U.S. entities and transactions to identify and mitigate trade-compliance risks.
- Establish, maintain, and enhance regulatory compliance controls related to import activities.
- Support the creation, execution, and ongoing improvement of trade-compliance policies related to imports.
- Develop and deliver training to employees on import and trade-compliance policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with the Export function to ensure proper and compliant flow of materials and data into and out of the organization.
- Interpret evolving import and customs regulations and assess their impact on business operations.
- Advise leadership and General Counsel on trade-compliance risks and mitigation strategies.
- Identify, assess, and manage trade-compliance risks when dealing with non-U.S. entities across all business functions.
- Work cross-functionally with operations, legal, finance, and other teams to develop practical, compliant solutions.
- Set and adjust priorities in a dynamic regulatory environment while maintaining flexibility and attention to detail.
Essential Skills
- Minimum six years of experience in import and customs trade compliance.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. import regulations, Customs and Border Protection requirements, and related trade laws.
- Hands-on experience with trade compliance and import compliance processes.
- Proven ability to manage duties, tariffs, and fees, including optimization of duty and tariff exposure.
- Experience with duty drawback processes and programs.
- Strong capability to assign and manage HTS and Schedule B classifications.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze changing regulations and develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Proven skill in identifying, assessing, and managing trade-compliance risks, particularly with non-U.S. entities.
- Ability to develop cross-functional solutions and work effectively with leadership and legal counsel.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities while maintaining flexibility in a changing environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation, policy development, and training delivery.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- U.S. Customs House Broker license preferred.
- Certified Customs Specialist certification.
- Experience supporting or collaborating with Export functions to ensure compliant flows of materials and data.
- Experience in developing and improving internal compliance controls and due-diligence screening processes.
- Experience designing and delivering employee training on trade-compliance topics.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
