FINANCE OFFICER
INTRODUCTION:
Established by the Holy See in 1924, The Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, is a Catholic archdiocese of the Byzantine Rite, under the leadership of Metropolitan Archbishop William C. Skurla, D.D., who is assisted by 70 priests and 15 deacons serving approximately 74 parishes currently located in 6 states. Although fully united with Rome, the Archeparchy is a sui juris Catholic Church and has both celibate and married priests with families. The Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Saints Cyril & Methodius is under the auspices of the Archeparchy. The Chancery offices of the Archeparchy, as well as the Seminary, are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Finance Officer is appointed by the Archbishop to: (a) fulfill the responsibilities of that position specified under Canon 262 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Church; (b) assist the Archbishop with the administration of the temporal goods of the other public juridical entities subject to his jurisdiction pursuant to Title XXIII of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Church; and (c) perform other duties designated by the Archbishop. The Finance Officer is responsible for the overall financial operations and strategy for the Archeparchy and for fostering the professional, honest, and prudent use of its temporal resources. The Finance Officer works under the authority of the Archbishop and with the Protosynchellus (i.e., Vicar General), Chancery staff, Seminary Rector, pastors, and parish administrators, in addition to the various boards, councils, and committees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is not intended to be a complete, detailed or exclusive list of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Finance Officer, but is intended to be a general illustration of the various aspects of the position:
· By way of example and not of limitation, specific areas of functional responsibility include:
+ Accounting and Financial Operations;
+ Financial Planning and Analysis;
+ Investment Management;
+ Parish Financial Services;
+ Insurance and Risk Management;
+ Health Insurance/Church Plan Advisory Services; and
+ Pension Advisory Services.
· Works closely with the Protosynchellus to act as a financial advisor to the Archbishop.
· Performs accounting functions.
· Determines creative solutions to unique financial challenges.
· Manages cash flow and oversees deposits and transfers.
· Participates in the administration of the priest pension plan and the employee health plan.
· Ensures that all funds are properly invested and managed, as well as evaluates investment alternatives.
· Evaluates, secures, and administers risk management to include property, liability, and casualty insurance coverage, as well as other risk coverages.
· Handles bank, investment vendor, insurance vendor, audit, and other third-party vendor relationships.
· Administers the planning and completion of the annual audit process in conjunction with an outside accounting firm.
· Maintains a high level of contact with constituencies across the Archeparchy, especially with pastors, administrators, and parish finance councils.
· Engages in the auditing of parishes for compliance with archeparchial requirements, financial accountability standards, and ethics in order to promote respect and trust among the parishioners.
· Engages with legal counsel on issues pertaining to archeparchial financial affairs.
· Provides data and seeks consent from the Board of Consultors and/or the archeparchial Finance Council for extraordinary acts of asset administration, as required.
· Participates in the planning, preparation, and presentation of accounting and financial topics during Clergy Days and meetings of priests and administrators in which such topics are appropriate.
· Serves on the archeparchial Finance Council and such other councils, boards, and committees as directed by the Archbishop, as well as prepares and delivers appropriate council, board, and committee financial reporting and commentary.
· Applies for grants.
· Participates in organizations that promote diocesan fiscal management to the extent requested by the Archbishop.
· Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
· Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience.
· Experience with responsibilities in leadership positions in accounting or finance and administration.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as QuickBooks and is willing to learn other appropriate applications.
· Maintains and is willing to enhance professional skills and acumen.
· Flexibility in performing designated duties, able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and exercises appropriate initiative to commence work and prosecute through to completion.
· Desire to learn and undertake new and unfamiliar tasks.
· Acceptance of some personal inconvenience on occasion for attainment of archeparchical objectives.
· An expectation of time spent working in-person primarily in the Chancery offices and on occasion at the Seminary or elsewhere within the Archeparchy.

· The position is full-time exempt. It will require occasional evening and weekend work and travel. A driver's license is required.
