General Job Description: This is intermediate performance level machining work designing, fabricating and modifying precision metal parts for machinery and equipment, including large industrial items, using lathes, drill presses, milling machines, shapers and similar equipment. An employee in this class gains experience and continues to learn to design metal items, machine metal items, dismantle equipment, replace defective parts and reassemble devices assigned for advancement to the full performance level.

The Requirements are as follows:

EDUCATION:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.

AND

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of experience learning the machinist trade as a helper or apprentice.

NOTE: Training in a post high school vocational program with approved machinist trade school curriculum for a minimum of six months up to a maximum of one year can be equated on a month-by-month basis for the experience requirement.
