Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to join our dynamic educational team. Duties
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's visual impairment and related needs
- Deliver engaging lessons across core subjects such as literacy, math, and social skills, utilizing adaptive learning technologies and specialized teaching methods
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavioral specialists—to support holistic student development
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to accommodate students’ visual impairments and learning styles
- Conduct assessments to monitor progress and adjust teaching approaches accordingly
- Provide training and resources to classroom staff and caregivers on visual impairment accommodations and inclusive practices
- Support students’ social integration through recreational therapy, music therapy, and other engaging activities designed for children with disabilities
Skills
- Proven experience working with children with visual impairments or other disabilities in educational settings
- Strong knowledge of visually impaired education techniques, including the use of learning technology and assistive devices
- Expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional design tailored for special education needs
- Familiarity with IEP processes, behavioral management strategies, and behavioral health principles
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with students, families, educators, and healthcare professionals
- Ability to implement speech therapy techniques, literacy education strategies, and math instruction adapted for learners with disabilities
- Experience in early childhood education or preschool settings is highly desirable
- Knowledge of deaf education, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, and early intervention practices
- Skills in classroom management, behavior management, and mentoring young learners
- Competence in using learning technology tools such as screen readers or magnification devices for visually impaired students
- Ability to provide a nurturing environment that promotes childhood development and child welfare principles
