Industrial Equipment Reliability Technician I

Fenner Precision Polymers - USA
Manheim, PA

About the Role

Picture your day: you start by reviewing preventive maintenance tasks in eMaint, walk the floor to run a quick "Take 5" risk assessment on a non-standard job, lock out/tag out equipment, and dive into a scheduled service. Later, a production line flags a fault—you diagnose the issue, repair it, document your work, and share the estimated time to restore with your supervisor. In the afternoon, you collaborate with Engineering on a small automation upgrade, order parts through the ERP, and mentor a teammate on a new troubleshooting method. Throughout the day, you model Fenner Precision Polymers’ values and behaviors, all while keeping people safe and equipment reliable.

What You Will Do

  • Provide comprehensive maintenance support across all manufacturing departments.
  • Work safely at all times, using the Take 5 system for non-standard work and following lockout/tagout and all safety procedures.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance on processing and production equipment; complete all jobs in an orderly manner.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment failures; strive to prevent recurrence through root-cause thinking and corrective improvements.
  • Recommend and implement reliability enhancements to increase uptime and equipment performance.
  • Support production needs and communicate clearly with associates, managers, and other stakeholders (written and verbal).
  • Use eMaint to document work; determine materials required and coordinate parts requisitions.
  • Apply multi-craft expertise daily: electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems for processing equipment.
  • Inform your supervisor/manager of diagnosis results, approximate repair times, and any additional assistance required.
  • Share information proactively with relevant personnel; contribute to team success by listening, exercising sound judgment, and training associates as needed.
  • Manage assigned projects and assist in monitoring on-site contractors to ensure they follow all applicable rules.
  • Assist the maintenance supervisor with job-site preparation and material ordering.
  • Use the ERP system to enter order requisitions and monitor purchase orders.
  • Work overtime when needed to support the operation.
  • Perform tasks aligned with Manufacturing Support Mechanic I responsibilities; as needed, support work spanning Mechanic I, II, and III.
  • Partner with Engineering to design and fabricate production equipment; provide electrical and automation expertise during in-house machine builds.
  • Design electrical and automation systems for in-house builds; create and maintain documentation for electrical schematics and control systems.
  • Develop PLC and data collection programs as required; troubleshoot automated equipment and controls.
  • Coordinate outside vendors for maintenance and automation projects; assist with machinery purchases, installations, and upgrades.
  • Research and apply new technologies to advance manufacturing processes; ensure equipment meets applicable safety requirements.
  • Schedule maintenance programs and processes for assigned areas of the production facility; perform skilled repairs on complex equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose more complex equipment problems; evaluate the need for replacement parts and place orders for necessary tools.

Environmental, Health & Safety

  • Learn and follow EHS policies, rules, and work instructions; attend required EHS training.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety by participating in or conducting risk assessments, workplace inspections, corrective actions, and safety observations.
  • Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions/acts, and other hazards; stop work when imminent danger is present.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly and ensure equipment remains in proper working condition.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on troubleshooting and repair experience with industrial equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Prior exposure beyond this minimum is a plus.
  • Required knowledge: motion controls and electrical wiring; mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with eMaint (CMMS).
  • PC literacy with basic MS Office and familiarity with AutoCAD preferred.

Certifications

  • None required.
  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) is a plus.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt required; Green Belt preferred.

Career Path

There are four levels of Machine Maintenance with clearly defined expectations. High performers can progress by mastering increasing levels of technical scope, automation expertise, and leadership.

Culture

Maintain and promote Fenner Precision Polymers’ values and behaviors at all times. We collaborate, communicate, and continuously improve to deliver safe, reliable manufacturing.
