Catering Prep Cook
Catering By Design is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our culinary team.
We are a full-service Philadelphia catering company known for handcrafted seasonal menus and attentive service. Our food draws inspiration from cuisines around the world, with an emphasis on sustainability, local sourcing, and thoughtful execution.
In this role, you’ll help prepare consistently high-quality food for events ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale galas. This is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your culinary skills while working with a collaborative, values-driven team.
Responsibilities
Complete daily prep assignments efficiently and accurately using established recipes and procedures
Wash, cut, portion, and prepare ingredients for catered events
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation
Properly handle, label, date, rotate, and store ingredients and prepared foods
Support food production for on-site and off-site events while maintaining consistent quality
Communicate with the culinary team about prep priorities, timing, and inventory needs
Follow all food-safety standards and health-code requirements
Qualifications
At least one year of experience in a prep or production kitchen
Strong knife skills and familiarity with standard commercial kitchen equipment
Ability to follow recipes, measurements, and preparation instructions precisely
Dependable, punctual, organized, and comfortable working as part of a team
Ability to work weekday shifts scheduled between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Availability for occasional weekend event support
Interest in sustainable food practices; experience with waste-conscious cooking is a plus
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds, if applicable
