Cultural Anthropology

The Department ofAnthropology at the University ofPittsburgh invites applications for afull-time visiting lecturer position in cultural anthropology to begin in Fall2026. The teaching loadfor this position is 6 courses (18 credits) per year:three courses in each of the Fall and Spring terms. The courses will be taughtatundergraduate levels and they will include large lecture courses, smallerundergraduate seminars, methods, and writing courses. Candidatesworking in anygeographical area and field of specialization are encouraged to apply, butpriority will be given to candidates who can teachcourses focused on race andgender in the United States. The successful candidate will also be asked toteach courses such as Introductionto Cultural Anthropology, Field Methods inCultural Anthropology, and courses within the candidate’s own areas ofexpertise, depending oncurricular needs in the Department of Anthropology. Aspart of their instructional activities, the candidate will also provide supportandmentor undergraduate students in research activities appropriate to theireducational needs.

Candidates must havea Ph.D. inAnthropology at the time of appointment. The position is outside thetenure stream, but it is renewable for two additional years in the sameemployment category based on need, funding, and continued excellence inteaching.
