About Pennsylvania Youth Theatre (PYT)

Pennsylvania Youth Theatre (PYT) is a non-profit performing arts organization located in Bethlehem, PA dedicated to educating, enriching, and entertaining young audiences through theatre. Our Adventure Camp program offers children ages 3-Grade 2 a summer full of creativity, exploration, and fun through drama, music, dance and visual arts.

Position Overview

PYT is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Summer Camp Counselors to serve as support staff for our Adventure Camp program. This role assists Art Form Counselors (theatre, music, dance, and visual arts) by supervising campers, facilitating transitions, serving as a substitute for Art Form Counselors during their scheduled absences, and ensuring a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Art Form Counselors in leading daily activities and performances.
• Supervise campers during transitions, snack/lunch breaks, and free play.
• Assist in managing classroom materials and maintaining a clean, organized space.
• Encourage positive group dynamics and assist in behavior management when needed.
• Serve as a role model by fostering enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork.
• Provide hands-on support during performances and special camp events.
• Serve as a substitute for Art Form Counselors during their scheduled absences.
• Ensure camper safety by following PYT’s policies and emergency procedures.

Qualifications

• Passion for working with children in a creative and energetic environment.
• Previous experience in theatre (acting, dance, music or art) and with children ages 3-8 preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to take initiative and provide support where needed.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
• Must be 18 years or older to apply.
• Must pass background checks in compliance with PA state requirements.

Schedule & Compensation

• Dates: 10 Weeks: June 8th – August 21st (PYT is closed June 29th to July 3rd)
• Hours: Approx. 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday (some extended hours may be required for Before and After Care)
• Compensation: Weekly stipend based on experience
