Position Summary Information
Position Purpose
The incumbent performs a variety of tasks involving the receipt, storage, maintenance and issuance of athletic equipment and instructional equipment as deemed necessary.
Description of Duties
- Maintain inventory for all athletic equipment. All equipment is numbered and sorted according to size, and by sport.
- Prepare equipment and facilities for all home and away athletic events.
- Oversee reconditioning process for shoulder pads, helmets, shoes, etc.
- Communicate with coaches regarding equipment needs or student-athlete conflicts.
- Responsible for equitable coverage to include laundering all practice and game equipment on a daily basis.
- Issue laundry pins/loops to each student-athlete for identification purposes.
- Receive, examine and record receipt of all new equipment (both athletic and instructional).
- Maintain records for instructional and athletic purposes.
- Place “holds” on student’s records for all unreturned equipment.
- Monitor the orderliness and cleanliness of athletic storage room, arena storage rooms, locker rooms, and main area.
- Walk through the area and locker rooms regularly to observe status and notifying custodial services or request Maintenance Work Orders (MWO’S) in situations requiring additional help or expertise.
- Oversee the recording of hours worked by student employees and submit forms for students working in this area to the department student employee supervisor. Assign and oversee the accomplishment of work by student workers in the Equipment Room.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks such as unlocking doors, turning on lights, pumping balls, and retrieving equipment from various sites.
- This position requires incumbent to be available to work a flexible schedule.
- Understanding of the University’s cash handing policy and proper management of billing and financial receipt processes.

Minimum Requirements Profile
One year of experience in stockroom, warehouse, or clerical work; and graduation from high school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience handling athletic equipment in a collegiate atmosphere preferred.
Applicant Rating Criteria
1) Experience with equipment ordering, equipment inventory and assignment of athletic gear.
2) Ability to multi-task.
3) Knowledge of athletic equipment needs for safety and welfare of student athletes.
4) Experience with records maintenance; specifically in Microsoft Excel.
5) Experience with commercial laundry equipment.
6) Demonstrated ability to work independently.
7) Strong interpersonal communication skills.
8) Experience with budgeting and cash handling.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of various kinds of athletic equipment.
- Knowledge of inventory control systems and procedures
- Ability to develop and maintain a computerized inventory system, keep inventory and store records.
- Sufficient physical strength to permit the lifting and moving of heavy objects.
- Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods.
- Ability to interact effectively with student athletes, coaches and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently within standard operation procedures.

Background Clearances
Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date.
