Position Description Summary




Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Engineering, and Physics (BiCEP) is establishing a three-year pool of temporary faculty ending April 30, 2027. Applicants in this pool could be called upon to teach at the undergraduate-level during the academic year, winter session, and/or summer session as needed.



Duties

Applicants will indicate their interest to teach in the following Chemistry Teaching categories: (Please pick at least one area)

A) General Education lectures

B) Lectures for Nursing/Nutrition/Exercise Science majors (Physiological Chemistry – General)

C) Labs for Nursing majors (Physiological Chemistry – General)

D) General Chemistry Lectures for STEM and related majors

E) General Chemistry Labs for STEM and related majors

F) Discipline-specific (200-level and above) Chemistry Lectures and Labs, including in the areas of Inorganic, Organic, Physical, Analytical, and Biochemistry. Other specialty areas may be self-identified by the applicant.


In addition, please indicate the campus or campuses at which you are interested in teaching. Commonwealth University has campuses in Bloomsburg, Clearfield, Lock Haven, and Mansfield.



Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)

Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry Education, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Prior experience teaching chemistry in the indicated categories and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations are preferred.

Supplemental Information

Recommendation for hire is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time faculty within the BiCEP department.


Completing this search is contingent upon student enrollment and available funding.


Faculty may be assigned to provide instruction through distance education.



Background Clearances

Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
