Long Term Sub for PE Teacher & Coach

Germantown Friends School is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for Physical Education and coach for the reminder of the academic year of 2025-26. The candidate is someone who supports our school's mission, including its commitment to diversity and multiculturalism. The ideal candidate has the ability to teach the full range of students from Pre-School through eighth grade, with a specific interest in grades preschool through second grade. Applicants should illustrate competencies in teaching various physical activities, including movement, building fitness, individual and team skills, and creating a positive learning environment. The development of scope and sequence, block planning, and appropriate lesson planning is an essential skill for the candidate. Germantown Friends School Physical Education Department implements various types of technology into everyday teaching, including but not limited to heart rate monitors. It is preferred that applicants demonstrate competencies and comfort using technology within the classroom.

Regarding coaching, Germantown Friends School is seeking a candidate who upholds team guidelines in alignment with the school's athletic philosophy and fosters increased morale and cooperation within the school's athletic program and the broader school community. The candidate demonstrates competence and instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to achieve a degree of individual and team success. Additionally, the candidate can provide instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, a strong work ethic, responsibility, teamwork, sportspersonship, self-discipline, leadership, and self-confidence. Germantown Friends School values effective communication with the team and parents/guardians. The candidate will need to ensure safety at the forefront of all coaching decisions, emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of best training procedures and injury-preventative actions. There is specific interest in coaches for basketball, wrestling, track & field, golf, softball, tennis, and lacrosse at various levels (V, JV, MS).

Qualifications

• An undergraduate degree in Physical Education or a closely related field is required.
• Teaching certification, master's degree, and experience preferred.
• Experience playing or coaching interscholastic or intercollegiate athletics is preferred.
• Has all completed security/background clearances.
• Demonstrated commitment to DEI professional development.
• Ability to organize and supervise a sports program/team.
• Good role model.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contexts.
• Works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation of all kinds.
• Certified in CPR/AED, Concussion Management, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention, Heat Illness, and / or other certifications as mandated by state law.
