Job Description

The Vice President of Engineering is a key member of the executive leadership team and a peer to the Vice President of Manufacturing. This role provides strategic and technical leadership for all engineering functions across the Electrical Equipment Center of Excellence (EECOE), ensuring design excellence, product innovation, and execution discipline. The VP of Engineering will lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization (mechanical, electrical, controls, and project engineering) responsible for developing and sustaining complex power packaging and integration solutions.

This leader will partner closely with manufacturing, operations, and supply chain to ensure engineering strategies align with business goals, customer requirements, and financial outcomes. The VP of Engineering combines a strong technical foundation with a proven ability to build high-performing teams, drive innovation, and lead through change in a growing and complex manufacturing environment.

Accountabilities

  • Strategy and Leadership:
    • Define and own the long-term and short-term engineering strategy, aligning design and innovation with customer needs, market growth, and operational scalability.
    • Serve as a peer and strategic partner to the VP of Manufacturing, ensuring engineering and production are fully integrated to support customer-obsessed delivery.
    • Create and standardize engineering practices across multiple locations for continuity of equipment manufacturing,
    • Execute The MCG Way by applying strategy deployment, process discipline, and continuous improvement within engineering functions.
    • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Finance to align capacity, resources, and technology with business demands.
    • Use KPIs to coach leaders and teams not only on results but on the behaviors that drive results.
    • Engage directly with customers as a technical leader to support innovation, problem-solving, and relationship-building.
  • Technical and Operational Excellence
    • Lead all aspects of product design, validation, testing, and release, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
    • Champion innovation, introducing advanced engineering tools, methodologies, and technologies (CAD, modeling, simulation, Industry 4.0 integration).
    • Establish standardized engineering processes to drive efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
    • Deploy Lean and Six Sigma principles within the engineering workflow to reduce waste, improve time-to-market, and increase reliability.
    • Ensure thorough root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventative solutions for customer issues and product performance.
  • People and Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Build, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and technical talent; foster engagement, accountability, and growth.
    • Create a collaborative and knowledge-sharing culture across multiple engineering disciplines.
    • Partner with Sales and Product Management to translate customer requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
    • Lead the Project Management Office within engineering, ensuring structured execution practices, customer feedback loops, and post-project reviews.

Supervisory Requirements

  • Directly manage a team of 5-8 professionals
  • Provides clear direction, priorities, and performance expectations to ensure alignment with company objectives
  • Coaches and develops staff through regular feedback, goal setting, and professional development plans
  • Conducts performance evaluations and supports career growth opportunities within the team
  • Fosters a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture
  • Delegates responsibilities appropriately and ensures team members are equipped to succeed
  • Partners with HR on recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top talent
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven success leading large, multidisciplinary engineering teams in complex product environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in product development, innovation, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of design and safety codes, CAD, modeling, and modern engineering tools.
  • Experience implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured quality/continuous improvement systems.
  • Track record of successfully managing engineering budgets, timelines, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong technical and business acumen; ability to translate engineering into business outcomes.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to balance long-term innovation with near-term execution.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to lead through change by creating clarity, trust, and commitment.
  • Deep commitment to developing people and connecting engagement to results.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn complex technologies and business models.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to travel ~50%.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • FLSA executive and professional positions paid on a salary basis, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays)
  • This role will work in an office setting, however, frequent visits to the production floor are required to oversee operations, ensure compliance and safety standards, and engage staff.
  • Mobility : Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Manual Dexterity : Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Lifting : Ability to lift and carry items up to twenty-five (25) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.
  • Visual and Auditory Requirements : Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
