Clinical Engineering Manager
Job Description
The Manager, Clinical Engineering is responsible for leading the repair, maintenance, and lifecycle management of medical equipment across a healthcare facility. This role provides hands-on leadership to Biomedical/Clinical Engineering staff, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to support patient care operations.
This position works under limited supervision and serves as the primary on-site leader for the medical equipment management program.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day operations of the Clinical Engineering team, including work assignments, scheduling, performance management, onboarding, and training
Build and develop a high-performing, engaged technical team
Oversee repair, preventive maintenance, and inspection activities for medical equipment
Monitor equipment performance, safety, and reliability to support optimal patient care
Review and analyze reports related to work completion, preventive maintenance compliance, backlog, and repeat equipment failures
Recommend equipment renovation, refurbishment, replacement, or redeployment based on age, failure trends, cost, and clinical suitability
Lead or participate in system-wide projects, including vendor selection, service contracts, policy development, and best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support complex devices or systems requiring multidisciplinary involvement
Monitor monthly expenditures and recommend strategies to manage and control service-related costs
Serve as a technical and operational resource for supported departments
Provide guidance and instruction on the safe and proper use of medical equipment
Perform preventive maintenance, safety testing, and complex repairs as needed, including component-level troubleshooting
Support continuous quality improvement initiatives
Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs

Skills and Requirements
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 5 years of experience in biomedical or clinical engineering
Hands-on experience supporting healthcare hardware, software, and medical equipment within a health system environment AAMI certification preferred
