State-Wide Organizing Director

One Pennsylvania is seeking a Statewide Organizing Director. We seek someone who models our values of transparency and accountability and understands the importance of growing and investing in the leadership of our members and organizers. This person should have the ability to develop systems and infrastructure in service of power building. We are looking for an innovative leader who excels in movement-building, is results-oriented, and has strong project and people management skills.
Successful applicants must have excellent communications skills, show leadership in large and small groups, be able to work well in a team, have knowledge or willingness to learn about the social justice strategies and movements that have come before us.
Reports to: Chief of Staff
Supervises: Several regional organizing directors and lead organizers
RESPONSIBILITIES
Grassroots Organizing and Leadership Development
Develop statewide strategy for building independent progressive, working class political power in Pennsylvania with the Power Building Director.
Lead regional organizing directors and lead organizers to build a large-scale dues-paying membership base, at the scale of hundreds of members in each chapter and thousands of members across the state.
Lead the organizing team to build strong chapters, with dynamic powerful cultures, that are welcoming, and also push people towards commitment and political education.
Lead the regional organizing directors to bring member leaders together across chapters in member leadership structures.
Ensure that organizers and One PA members and leaders have the skills and tools to invite others into the organization as dues-paying members, and to successfully design, implement, and adjust issue campaigns such as power mapping, media, and public engagement and mobilization.
Lead the organizing team to identify, train and mobilize a significant number of members to strategic actions against MAGA consolidation of power.
Support the leadership development of the organizing team. Ensure that organizers are adequately trained and implement traditional grassroots community organizing and worker organizing strategies such as phone banking, door-to-door canvassing, house meetings, as well as new tactics such as digital and/or online organizing.
Support a member and staff leadership training program focused on building power, political education and organizing skills with the Movement Politics Director.
Support the organizing team in identifying and developing relationships with organizations and leaders who can become effective partners in campaigns.
Provide strong clarity and accountability for the organizing team.
Movement Partners and Coalitions and Movement Strategy
Be a public leader by managing a portfolio of external ally relationships.
Represent One PA to a broad variety of movement partners, coalitions, audiences and settings.
Support implementation of One PA’s theory of change by serving on the leadership team and driving the organization to strategically build power in every aspect of our work.
Work closely with the Power Building Director and Civic Engagement leadership to design and run a powerful political power building statewide program based on power analysis and long term strategy.
Support Organizing Team to Drive Issue Campaigns
Lead strategic direction of issue campaigns with a focus on building power, aligning campaigns to civic engagement and elections, narrative and communications, and growing One PA’s base.
Use deep power analysis and issue-cutting skills to help organizers and senior directors create and execute razor-sharp campaign strategies by building a culture of campaigning that electrifies and focuses on member leadership development.
Lead process to develop long-term agendas and power analysis for various campaign areas as well as broad political power building (housing rights, environmental justice, workers' rights, democracy reform) with staff, grassroots leaders, and coalitions.
Represent One PA at campaign tables/coalitions, designing One PA’s organizing efforts within issue campaigns to also strengthen and grow our base of members and leaders.
Team Management and Leadership
Effectively build and support a team of organizers, lead organizers and organizing directors invested in building member power and establishing deep relationships with grassroots leaders.
Lead the organizing department and develop their leadership. Maintain a positive organizing culture at all levels including by modeling, building, and supporting effective communication, deep coordination, principled conflict resolution and a drive for building member power and independent progressive political power.
Organizing Money
Work with the Strategic Advancement Director to hold relationships with funders and ensure that One PA meets funding requirements and deadlines.
Management of program expenditures.
While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications below, we are looking for:
QUALIFICATIONS:
7+ years or comparable experience working with community, movement, labor, or electoral organizations that have success in developing and winning campaigns.
A similar level of experience supervising staff, with a strong track record of building teams and developing staff leadership.
Strong interpersonal, relational, and organizational communication skills.
Commitment and passion for racial, gender, and economic justice and their intersections, both inside and outside organizations. Experience with issue organizing in working class communities and communities of color.
Exceptional supervision and coaching skills. Knowledge of community organizing, political education, and movement building.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and implement training curriculum and organizing tools.
Reliable, consistent, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Conditions: The position will be based in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia, PA with responsibilities in Harrisburg and Delaware County. Owning a car as a licensed, insured operator is required. One PA provides mileage reimbursement at the federal rate and lodging when travelling.
Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience with benefits including defined benefit pension (with contributions beginning after six months of employment), optional 401K type plan, generous paid time off, eight weeks of remote work yearly, and fully paid health insurance.
