Nuclear Medicine Tech
JOB TITLE: NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECH
- Schedule : Full Time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
- Start Date: Immediately
- Contract End Date: 5/22/2027, with potential to be extended
- Facility: Hospital
- Pay: $45/hour
REQUIRED:
- NMTCB or ARRT (N)
- BLS (American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Military Training Network)
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs routine to moderately complex Nuclear Medicine examination procedures.
- These exams are achieved utilizing SPECT, SPECT/CT and PET/CT.
- Knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations [that pertain to nuclear medicine technology practices.]
- Knowledge of the medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and physics and how they relate to the cardiovascular, skeletal, endocrine, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems of the human body.
- Knowledge of radioactive package types, package surveys, and radioactive materials record management.
- Ability to document excessive radiation exposure in the working environment.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing post iodine-131 radiation safety precautions.
- Knowledge of radioactive package types, package surveys, and radioactive materials record management.
- Ability to troubleshoot gamma camera and auxiliary equipment problems.
- Ability to analyze computer generated data for technical quality and artifacts and initiate corrective measures.
- Knowledge of medical events requiring documentation and the ability to properly document them and make recommendations to the radiation safety officer (RSO).
- Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographic images while minimizing patient dosage.
- Practice radiation safety to reduce exposure to patient, staff and self.
- This is achieved using lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lines walls and collimation and following ALARA.
- Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that the patient understands what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible.
- May be required by procedure or patients’ condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions, and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Responsible for cleanliness and stocking adequate levels of supplies in assigned areas.
- Must report equipment malfunction in a timely manner to the supervisor.
- Incumbent must be professional, cooperative and be able to work with other employees.
- Meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.
- Consistently communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
- Provide the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
- Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
- Experience with VISTA (CPRS) is preferred, but not required.
