Job Description
The Dietary Aide supports daily food service operations to ensure residents receive nutritious, well-prepared meals that meet dietary needs and facility standards. This role focuses on meal preparation, tray assembly, and delivery while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and respectful customer service.
Responsibilities
- Assist with meal preparation by following established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines.
- Portion and plate meals accurately according to individual diet orders and resident needs.
- Assemble and organize trays on the tray line to ensure correct meal components for each resident.
- Deliver meal trays to designated floors and resident areas, and assist with tray setup as needed.
- Collect trays after meals and return them to the kitchen for cleaning and processing.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, and ensure all items are sanitized and stored properly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, dining areas, and all food-service spaces.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures at all times.
- Communicate with nursing staff about resident dietary needs, preferences, and any concerns or changes.
- Assist with inventory tasks, including stocking supplies, rotating products, and monitoring food items.
- Support basic kitchen tasks such as prep work, portioning, and simple cooking as needed.
- Provide friendly, respectful, and courteous service to residents, families, and fellow staff members.
- Work effectively as part of a team to ensure timely and accurate meal service across all shifts.
Essential Skills
- Experience in food preparation and basic cooking in a foodservice or kitchen environment.
- Hands-on experience with tray line operations and assembling meal trays.
- Dishwashing and kitchen cleaning experience, including safe handling of equipment and chemicals.
- Background in foodservice, such as food service worker, line cook, grill cook, banquet, waiter, or restaurant experience.
- Ability to work effectively in a hot and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift light items throughout the shift.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate with 8–10 teammates.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in diet orders, portioning, and tray assembly.
- Customer service skills with a focus on respectful, friendly interaction.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in healthcare foodservice or institutional dining is beneficial.
- Comfort working in environments with limited direct patient or resident interaction.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including menus and diet orders.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks during busy meal periods.
- Willingness to work rotating weekends and rotating holidays as part of the schedule.

Work Environment
This role follows 1st or 2nd shift schedules with 8-hour days, typically 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. or 11:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m., including rotating weekends and rotating holidays. You will work in a busy, production-style kitchen with 8–10 teammates when fully staffed, focusing primarily on assembling trays and delivering them to assigned floors with very limited direct patient interaction. The kitchen can become very hot, especially in the summer, and temperatures may reach around 100 degrees when the ovens are in use. The environment is fast-paced, requires standing and walking for most of the shift, and involves regular lifting of light items, dishwashing, and maintaining clean, organized food-service areas

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $14.00 - $15.00/hr.
