The Energy Science, Technology & Policy (EST&P) Master's of Science (MS) Program of the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is accepting applications for an adjunct teaching position to serve as instructor for the course 39-613 Energy Transport & Storage for the Fall of 2025. EST&P ( ) is a leading energy-focused masters-level graduate program that offers unique interdisciplinary engineering MS degrees to students from varying engineering and science backgrounds. EST&P is affiliated with six partner engineering departments at CMU, as well as the Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation, and proudly builds upon the significant accomplishments in energy by CMU's faculty, researchers, students, and graduates. EST&P degrees are based in engineering, aligned with new discoveries in science, attuned to sustainability and the environment, and informed by a broader perspective in economics and public policy. Our mission is to deliver educational programs in energy that produce graduates who understand the interdisciplinary challenges of energy and provide effective solutions to energy issues as well as leadership across the entire spectrum of energy sectors. To support this mission, we deliver a rigorous, modern, and innovative curriculum. Energy Transport & Storage is one of four Energy Core courses in EST&P program. These Energy Core mini-courses provide a foundation for understanding all aspects of energy, providing different perspectives from which the multifaceted issues of energy are examined and understood. Students are expected to participate in multidisciplinary teams to understand and develop solutions to energy problems, present results and write reports, engage in active discussions, and debate with faculty and fellow students. The course is delivered during the second mini of CMU's academic calendar, which runs from October 20, 2025 through December 5, 2025, with a finals + grading period that concludes December 17, 2025. The course meets on CMU's Pittsburgh campus on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 through 11:50 PM (4 hours per week). The expected start date is no later than September 20, 2025, to allow for time for course preparation.Qualifications
We seek an individual who holds a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, with a particular interest in candidates having specific expertise in some topics of energy transport and storage, a broad understanding of the overall subject areas, and experience teaching engineering students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
