Senior Product Designer - Checkout Experience
Job Summary: A regional retail-focused organization is seeking a skilled and resourceful Senior Product Designer to lead the design and enhancement of employee-led checkout experiences across digital and in-store environments. This role is responsible for conducting in-store research, shaping intuitive checkout flows, and contributing to a scalable design system. The designer will play a critical role in improving customer and employee interactions at the point of sale, collaborating cross-functionally to drive innovation and usability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver end-to-end checkout experiences that span digital interfaces and physical retail environments
- Conduct in-store field research and testing to validate design concepts and uncover user insights
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, operations, and other stakeholders to define and implement solutions
- Translate user research findings into actionable design improvements
- Maintain and contribute to the organization's design system and pattern library
- Balance multiple initiatives, including digital optimizations, in-store workflow enhancements, and strategic long-term planning
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product design or UX design, preferably in a retail or operational environment
- Experience designing for both digital products and physical workflows
Special Requirements:
- Must have reliable transportation to conduct frequent and recurring in-store research at various retail locations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong ability to lead user research efforts, including field testing in retail environments
- Proficient in Figma, including use of component libraries, auto layout, and design tokens
- Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and balancing competing priorities
- Skilled at working in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
Additional Desired Characteristics:
- Experience designing employee-facing or operational systems
- Background in retail, e-commerce, or omnichannel customer experiences
- Knowledge of scalable design systems and pattern libraries
Work Environment:
- This is a hybrid role with regular travel to regional retail store locations for fieldwork
- Requires flexibility in schedule to accommodate in-store testing and research activities

Job Type: Contract
Pay: $45.00 - $60.00 per hour
