General Labor-Lincoln University Grounds Staff
Thompson Hospitality Facilities is seeking dependable and hardworking General Labor – Grounds Staff to support the upkeep and appearance of outdoor campus spaces at Lincoln University . This role is essential in maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept grounds that reflect pride in the university environment.
General Labor staff perform a variety of manual labor tasks that support landscaping, maintenance, cleanup, and seasonal campus operations.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, staying active, and contributing to a team that directly impacts campus appearance and safety.
Responsibilities:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance tasks including litter pickup, raking, sweeping, and debris removal
- Assist with mowing, trimming, edging, and basic landscaping support activities
- Support seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow and ice removal, and storm cleanup
- Maintain cleanliness of sidewalks, parking lots, walkways, athletic fields, and exterior building areas
- Load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, mulch, soil, and supplies across campus
- Operate basic grounds tools and equipment such as blowers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and trimmers
- Assist with landscaping projects including planting, mulching, and basic garden bed upkeep
- Support event setup and breakdown for outdoor campus activities and special events
- Report unsafe conditions, damage, or maintenance needs to supervisors promptly
- Follow all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Work collaboratively with team members and respond to daily work assignments from supervisors
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, construction, or general labor experience preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and reliability required
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to maintain punctuality and consistent attendance
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on large campuses, parks, or commercial properties
- Basic knowledge of landscaping tools and outdoor maintenance practices
- Ability to safely use hand tools and light power equipment
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining clean outdoor spaces
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules including early mornings or seasonal overtime
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (entire shift)
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds or more
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb repeatedly throughout the workday
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and humidity
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks such as raking, shoveling, lifting, sweeping, and carrying materials
- Strong hand strength and manual dexterity required for use of tools and equipment
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain, hills, grass, and outdoor surfaces across campus
- Visual and auditory ability to recognize hazards, follow instructions, and respond to safety alerts
